Spring is in full swing at Vista Academy and with it comes varying weather and temperatures. As our days begin to warm up we want to ensure that students stay hydrated. Please make sure to send your child to school with a refillable water bottle. Our drinking fountains have all been tuned into filling stations so it is important all students come prepared with reusable bottles to refill. Please clean the water bottles daily. We will also continue to accept water bottle donations. We want to ensure our students stay safe, healthy, and hydrated!

The COVID Decision Tree has been recently updated HERE. There are a couple significant changes:
1. Under the old guidance, an individual who received a negative COVID test had to wait 72 hours after symptoms improved to return to work. Under the new guidance, an individual who received a negative COVID test needs to wait 24 hours after symptoms have improved to return to school.
2. The COVID Decision Tree still applies even if an individual has received the COVID vaccine.
Families, please keep us informed about the following:
If you notice any symptoms, please keep your child at home. Notify the school immediately.
If you have taken a test and it is positive, please inform the school immediately.
If you have taken a test and are awaiting the results, please keep your child at home until you receive the results.

In first grade, students are in the midst of their IB unit, How the world works. Their central idea is: Universal natural cycles impact human activities and experiences and they are inquiring about sun, moon, and star cycles, observing and recording data, and seasonal patterns. They recorded their shadows at different times of the day as part of their investigation.
If you have any questions about our IB program, please reach out to our IB coordinator, Sharon Scott-Gonzalez at firstname.lastname@example.org
Mrs. B's Update:
This week in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade classes we focused on Motivation to finish the year strong. It is important to set goals that will help in Self-Management Skills with organization and time management. We discussed how to start with small steps that allow us to reach our goals. In Kinder we focused on being Communicators and How We Express Ourselves. We spoke about eye contact, taking turns speaking, and being good listeners.

Vista Academy's English Learner Program:
Our ELAC committee met last week and discussed the Needs Assessment Survey. Thank you very much for your input. We have made a list of recommendations for next year to assist English Learners.
1. Informational night for Reclassification and Equity before conferences (individual letters with levels given to parents beforehand)
2. Before and after school tutorials
3. Materials for ELs to be sent home in a “practice packet” (books, flashcards, visual dictionaries, games to practice English)
In dance class, both virtual and classic students are creating dances related to choreography by chance, or dance by chance, a method created by Merce Cunningham. Students are creating content related to how humans have a responsibility to the planet and ways that they can make a positive change. With that in mind, students were able to choose their own specific topic of interest. As they are creating choreography, students will refine their own work and give feedback to others based on their use of the elements of dance. Each dance will contain three different sections related to their chosen topic. Once their projects are fully created, students will record their videos in the original order they selected: Section 1, Section 2, Section 3. Then, students will be given a random order to perform the dance: Section 3, Section 2, Section 1 and will record their dance again with this new "Dance by Chance" sequence.
Art Specialties at Vista Academy:
Vista Academy students have art specialty classes in dance, drama and music every week. Research has shown that participation in the arts has many benefits to students now, as well as later on in life. Each week we will feature a Why Art card from ART=OPPORTUNITY. More information and links to the studies on the benefits of the arts can be found on the website.
