¿Qué pasa en la clase de español? – 2nd Grade

In 2nd grade this year we are super fortunate to have workbooks! These workbooks that go along with our ¡Viva el español! curriculum will travel to 3rd grade next year with our students. First quarter will mostly be review of what we learned in kindergarten & 1st grade including the following themes: basic greetings, shapes, colors, numbers 0-30, classroom objects, days of the week, months, farm animals, months, and weather. Our goal is to review everything by week 6 so we can start new material (clothes vocabulary) before track out.

¿Qué pasa en la clase de español? – 1st grade

In 1st grade this quarter, we will be reviewing all the concepts we covered in kindergarten. This week we reviewed how to ask a friend their name (¿Cómo te llamas?) and how to introduce ourself (Me llamo...). We also reviewed basic greetings like hello (hola), goodbye (adiós), and how to greet people at different times of the day. We also how to learned how to ask for things NICELY in Spanish and saying please, thank you and you're welcome (por favor, gracias, denada). The rest of this quarter will be spent reviewing other topics covered in kindergarten Spanish like colors, numbers 1-20, shapes, classroom objects, days of the week, farm animals and "I am" phrases using 'tengo'. We will most likely review throughout the quarter and start fresh after track out with new material.

¿Qué Pasa en la clase de español? – Kindergarten

Welcome to Franklin Academy! This first week of school not all students were able to come to Spanish class, but next week we will start fresh with Lección 1 of ¡Viva el español! This quarter students will have an introduction to basic greetings and how to introduce themselves (I will say, several kindergarteners came in asking me, ¿Cómo estás? this week. I'm so impressed!) in Spanish, as well as an introduction to some classroom objects, colors (just red, orange, yellow, green and blue, for now) and shapes (triangle, circle, rectangle, square and hexagon). I am excited to get to know this group of kindergarteners! Encourage them to practice Spanish at home as they start on this language learning adventure.

Technology Class: iPad Promises

The focus for technology this quarter K-2 is familiarizing students with our iPad Promises (below) and beginning to teach them basic skills on how to use them. This week in 1st & 2nd grade students received a pair of earbud headphones to use at school with the iPads this year. These will be kept in the technology classroom for students to use with the iPads, as we will be using them beginning in the next few weeks. This year in technology class all students K-2 be taught how to do the following things:

  • turn the iPad on and off
  • plug headphones in
  • adjust volume up & down
  • adjust screen brightness
  • put the iPad "to sleep"

In your open house packets you received an internet permission form. If you prefer that your child not use the internet, please contact me so we can work out alternate assignments for technology that you are comfortable with.
