Hispanic Heritage Month
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, today we highlight author:
Julia Alvarez was raised in the Dominican Republic and then moved to New York when she was 10 years old. She was forced to flee the Dominican Republic because her father was involved in a plot to overthrow the dictator, Rafael Trujillo. Many of her novels refer to this time period, such as In the Time of Butterflies and Before We Were Free. To read these books by Julia Alvarez and more, stop by the library.
Seniors, Donna Rodriguez and Jennifer Nieves were selected to be a part of the “Her Honor” program sponsored by Judge Judy (pictured below in a yellow top hat). Judge Judy kicked off this year’s group with an inspirational speech at their opening luncheon yesterday. Over the course of the year, each student is matched with a mentor who guides the students with career and life skills.
- Our Varsity Girls Soccer team defeated Lakeland 6-1 yesterday in an excellent showing from all involved. Goals were scored by Ellie Fox, Lorena Lora Rodriguez, Sami Marvin and Kayla McGuigan. Outstanding defensive play from Zoey Murphy, Ashley Richardson, Anastasia Mazon and Juliana Marvin. Lakeland's opportunities to score were denied by Emily Aridas, who registered 11 saves.
