Munz's Weekly Update
Week of September 12th
What's Been Happening in Room 125....
Phonics--these last few weeks, the children have been reviewing and practicing the 5 phonics skills for short and long vowels. I spend a big chunk of time at the beginning of the year having them practice with smaller, easy words. By working with smaller words, they will be able to decode larger words as they come across them in books. During this time, the children have also been learning and practicing the procedures for completing independent work while I work with small groups and individual children. They have been doing really well! Soon I will be differentiating their Word Work lists to be more at their level. This week your child will be bringing home a stapled packet of work from these last few weeks of practice.
Reading--We have been working on recording our thinking about what we read. They have been keeping track of connections, questions, and predictions on post-its before, during, and after they read a book. The children have also been using Raz-Kids online book resource. I will soon send home your child's login information and they can access it at home.
