CAR Program Hosts First Graduation Ceremony

Big picture
MSD's Credit Alternative Recovery (CAR) Program held its first graduation ceremony on Sunday, February 16, during which 21 students received their high school diploma. Typically students graduate at various intervals from this program, making graduation ceremonies hard to plan. This winter, however, several students finished at the same time, so a graduation ceremony was able to take place.

The CAR Program offers students who have struggled to find success in the traditional classroom the opportunity to earn credits and diplomas from a remote location. Through the use of web-based programs, teachers are able to customize education plans to meet the specific student's needs.

Choral Students Achieve Well at District Contest

Big picture
Both the Northfield and Southwood Choral Departments sent several students to the District Vocal Solo & Ensemble Contest on February 8.

Northfield went undefeated, with every entry receiving a gold rating! An a cappella and treble choir competed in the ensemble category, along with two trios and five soloists. Three NHS students, Ellie Proebstle, Ariana Varner, and Athena Varner, also qualified to compete at the State Competition on February 22.

Southwood brought home 19 gold ratings, including 5 ensembles, 13 vocal soloists, and one piano soloist. Six entries qualified for the State Competition. State qualifiers included Olivia Cummins, Marissa Jones, Gracen Kelley, Isabel Davis, Daisy Sparks, Victoria Holloway, Micah Dale, and Cage DuBois.
