WE'RE PLANNING A "SPOOKTACULAR" MONTH HERE IN COUGAR COUNTRY

ANNUAL MONSTEROUS MATH NIGHT OCTOBER 26TH 5:30- 6:30 PM

Please plan on joining us for a really fun night where the students play and learn math games that strengthen and build number sense and math fact fluency. Everyone is welcome to dress in costumes (school appropriate), play along, and win candy prizes.

  • Candy donations are greatly appreciated and can be brought to the school office anytime.

A HUGE THANK YOU TO EVERYONE FOR A GREAT OPEN HOUSE EVENING!

It was good to see all the families together. The kids really enjoyed the scavenger hunt showing their parents the classrooms, and special's areas. Congratulations to Taegan Harmon and Brandon Ramsey for winning the gift baskets. The community volunteer tables were very helpful and informative. If you missed Open House, we would love to see you next time. Please keep your eye out... there is a lot happening at Smoketree this month!

CANDY WARNING

For Halloween candy safety this season the City Manager's assistant's office along with the Lake Havasu Police Department has released a very important public health message regarding methamphetamine "candy" that resemble SweetTarts. Please refer to either website for more information.

STUDENT COUNCIL

Here in Cougar Country, there is a team of 5th and 6th-grade students that make up the student council team. On this team, the students learn leadership skills and model upstanding citizenship while maintaining a B average. The student council is responsible for creating a spirit day each month, collaborating with staff, and representing the student body.

AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS

We have a lot of after-school activities at Smoketree!

Tutoring and Homework Clubs have already started.

This month we will be starting Foreign Language Club where 1st through 3rd-grade students can learn American Sign Language and Spanish.

  • This club meets on Mondays from 2:45-3:30 PM starting October 24th.

For the 4th through 6th-grade students, we have S.T.E.M. Club.

  • S.T.E.M. meets every Monday from 2:45- 3:45 PM starting October 17th.

A NOTE FROM THE LIBRARIAN

Smoketree Family and friends,

I would like to THANK YOU for your continued support of our Book Fair. I am always excited to get new books for our library. Have you heard about the Millionaires Club? For every Accelerated Reader (AR) book your child reads and passes the test the AR program keeps a word count. When the student reaches a million words they're in the club! This year I'm excited to add the 1/2 million club! And let's not forget about the kinders, we will have a Tricky Word Club. Once they master 100% of the Tricky Words, they too are in the club. The cut-off date for these clubs is May 1st. At the end of the school year, we celebrate with lunch, cake, gift bags, and goodies. I'll be keeping you informed throughout the school year.

HAPPY READING! Mrs. Thomas

SMOKETREE PTSO UPDATES

We just wrapped up our Read-a-thon fundraiser and earned a total of $1392. Together we had a total of 2555 minutes read by all the students. Great job! Prizes will be given out next week. Be looking for the ZAG fundraiser to be starting October 17th, 2022. When we return from fall break. Some exciting news .... The new school sound system is currently being installed in the gym. Thank you to all for fundraising to make this possible for the students and staff.

The next PTSO meeting will be held on October 5th from 2:45 pm- 3:30 pm. All are welcome. See you there.
