A Message From the Principal
We seem to be getting through the carpool lane much more swiftly this year. This is a direct result of making sure that we are following the Drop Off/Pick Up Procedures. Thank you to everyone that is diligent about following these procedures. Some important things to remember in order to keep things running so smoothly are:
1. Pull your car all the way forward around the loop. Please don't stop at the doors when there is room in front of you.
2. Only students should exit the cars. If you would like to help your child out of the car, please pull into one of the parking spots, and then use the crosswalk.
3. If you would like to park and meet your child at the door, please remember that the lower parking lot is for parent parking, and the upper parking lot is for busses and teacher parking ONLY. This is extrememly important for the safety of children loading busses.
4. If you park and would like to walk your child to the door to give that last hug and high five, you MUST use the crosswalk. The crosswalks are painted in yellow and are monitored by an adult that will stop traffic flow for you. Please do NOT cut across the flow of traffic. Cars are not expecting you there, and student safety is of our utmost importance.
Choose Kindness Challenge
As we continue our campaign to raise awareness about bullying prevention in our schools. Here at Silver Springs will be doing things to promote kindness. For example, each Monday during the month of October let's all wear blue to promote kindness!
This week's Choose Kindness Challenge is to commit an act of kindness everyday and challenge others to do the same. You could hold the door for the person behind you, or tell someone that they look nice today, or help someone that has dropped their books.
Let's see you we all can use Habit 8 by Finding our Voice and Inspiring Others to Find theirs. I look forward to hearing your stories about all the new friends that you have made.
Here's to a fun, kind, October!

ALICE Parent Meeting
Title I Parent Meeting
Wednesday, October 19th - 6:00 p.m.
Thursday, Octber 20th 9:00 a.m.
Parents of students participating in the Title I program are invited to attend.
It’s time again for PTA Reflections…
Encourage your child to unleash their inner artist through the PTA’s Reflections Art Program! This year’s theme, “What is Your Story?” encourages students to think about who they are and what they want others to know about them.
Have your child get creative with an original work of art. Students may enter as many entries as they’d like, in one or more of the following categories:
· Dance Choreography
· Film Production
· Literature
· Music Composition
· Photography
· Visual Arts
All artwork must be submitted by November 01, 2016. Required documents are the checklist, student entry form, and consent form. Please follow ALL instructions on the checklist to make sure that the entry is acceptable or it will not be judged. No writing name on the front or glitter in visual arts. All artwork needs a title and artist statement. Most importantly, the theme must be reflected in the original work of art. Each category has specific rules that need to be followed like “presentation” or “format”. Read all rules carefully and follow specific directions before submitting artwork!

It's Box Top Collection Time!!!
Next week, Oct. 17 – 21, will be our fall Box Top Collection Contest! Here’s how to participate:
1. Check all your home products for Box Tops for Education labels.
2. Please cut them out around the edges.
3. Place Box Tops in a ziploc bag or envelope.
4. Put the student and teacher’s name on the bag/envelope.
5. Turn in the bag to your student’s teacher or in the container in the school lobby.
The classroom with the most Box Tops will receive a Pajama Day!
Last year our school earned over $1100 just from all those little tops! This is an easy way to support our great school. For more information, please see the attached flyer.
Halloween Parade - October 28th 2:00 p.m.
Silver Springs will be celebrating Halloween with our annual costume parade on October 28th. The parade will begin at 2:00 p.m. We will parade around the hallways of the school. Parents will have a special viewing location in the gym.
Please follow these guidelines when planning your child's costume:
-Please make sure the costume is weather appropriate (students will go outside for recess)
-Students are responsible for their costumes not causing a problem during learning time.
-Face make-up, hairspray, etc. must be applied at home.
-No fake weapons of any kind are allowed at school.
-No fake blood and no scary costumes (if it would scare a kindergartener, please don’t wear it!)
Recently there have been news stories about bad people dressed as clowns that has caused anxiety for our students. In light of this, we are requesting any non-staff adults and visitors assisting at Halloween parties, and during the school Halloween parade, not wear costumes. All adults participating at school celebrations on October 28th must be clearly identifiable. No adults should wear masks or face make up face make up please. We are specifically requesting no clown costumes among adults at our Halloween celebrations. All adults attending Halloween parties should be clearly identifiable.
Here's to a safe Halloween!
Supporting the The 7 Habits at home!
Habit #6: Synergize
What this means: Working together is better. The whole is greater than the sum of the parts.
“I get along well with other people and work well in groups.”
“I value the strengths of others and allow myself to learn from them.”
“I know that working together as a team we can get
more done and come up with better solutions than
we could alone.”
“I seek out other people’s ideas to solve problems.”
How can I do this in my life?
With you children, choose a problem you may have (like curfew or completing tasks). Use the Synergy Action Plan to summarize your child's solution and your solution: (1) define the problem, (2) share your views, (3) think of solutions, (4) choose the best solution together. See if you can reach a better solution (The High Way) than either of you could come up with alone.
