LITERACY RESOURCES
Reading Activity:
Spiders-Comparing Fiction vs. Nonfiction
Visit: Scholastic Online
- Scroll down to Day 1: Animal Study Spiders
- Click the link that says Take Me There
- Read the book & watch the video.
- Click the Puzzler links on the left to work on fun activities.
- Invent a Spider: Some spiders are named for how they look—like the wolf spider or the pumpkin spider.
- Pretend you discovered a new kind of spider.
- Draw it. (Be sure to give it eight legs, a head, and a body.)
- Describe it in words.
- Name it!
Reading Activity:
- Visit Reading A-Z/Raz Kids
- Choose a book and listen to it, read it yourself, and then complete a comprehension quiz.
- Take a video of yourself reading. Listen to the video and share with family.
Writing Activity:
- Using the journal writing paper/notebook, draw & color a picture of something fun you did this week. Then, write five sentences about it.
- Remember to use the writing goals. Start a sentence with a capital letter, use spaces between words, use the high-frequency word list to write them correctly in the sentence, stretch out the sounds of unknown words and write it’s beginning, middle and ending sounds, and end the sentence with a period.
- Use as many of your sight words as you can to write a silly story or sentences. Complete list of word wall words/sight words below

- Practice handwriting in the Handwriting Without Tears Booklet.
- Use chalk to practice writing letters and/or high frequency words on the sidewalk.

- Complete a page in the packet that was provided to you.

- Pick a scholastic activity of your choice to complete.

Telling Time
- Watch Telling Time Video above
- Practice telling time on a digital and analogue clock to the hour and half hour. Write the times digitally on a piece of paper or whiteboard. Practice on the clock link below.
Number Line
- Draw a number line to 20. If you have two dice, roll them and add or subtract the numbers using the n umber line to help you. Use the number line app below for extra practice
Geometry
- Take a 2D and 3D shape walk around your house and outside. Draw or take pictures of the things you find. Label your shapes. Check out the shape video below.
Adding and Subtracting
- Practice 20 problems adding and subtracting up to 20. Ex: 15+4= 18-9=

- Complete two pages in the First Grade Math Packets below!

- Pick a Bridges math home connections activity.
- Use chalk to practice writing numbers to 120 and make equations on the sidewalk.
