Thornhill Elementary PFC Newsletter
Volume 26, Issue 26, February 26, 2019
From the PFC President
I think it’s safe to say that with the teachers’ strike going on, the majority of us are experiencing something we have never experienced before.
But the strike has had what I think is an unexpected positive effect: It has shown the strength of the Thornhill community. Parents and students have come together to provide help and support for not only our teachers, but for each other. This support has come in the form of everything from walking the line with our teachers, to operating a “solidarity school” location at St. John’s Church, to respecting the needs and decisions of school staff members who need to come to work.
Sometimes, being there for each other is more than enough. And the people who make Thornhill part of our community continue to show that they will be there when needed.
I want to acknowledge the efforts of four Thornhill parents in particular. Pamela Schwartz took the reins of getting the solidarity school set up at St. John’s, and Mona Marbach has been crucial to organizing the location’s set up and operation. If you really want to see what Thornhill’s community is all about, check out things over at St. John’s during the day. On the picket line, Elyse Bart has done a wonderful job organizing all the shifts and logistics in order to show a strong presence outside our school for our teachers.
And whether or not you have sent your kids to St. John’s, take a minute to thank church rector Scott Denman for willingly opening his doors to all of us. We should all have neighbors as good as Scott.
!!! FLASH AUCTION - Don't Throw Away Your Shot !!!
Awesome Thornhill Dad, Andrew Smith, just won the lottery! The HAMILTON Lottery that is! And he's generously donating these incredibly hard-to-get tickets to the Thornhill Auction. Here's the catch... the show is tomorrow night, WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 27, 2019.
BID NOW!! This auction closes at 12pm Noon on Wednesday, February 27, 2019.
These are lottery tickets and the location of the seats is not determined yet. But they are *usually* in the front 2 rows of the orchestra. Not that it matters, A. Ham is great from any seat!!
Please note, you will have to meet Andrew at the theater at 6pm (2/27/19) to get tickets. Show is at 7pm, Orpheum Theater, upstairs from Civic Center BART. 1192 Market St.
Feel free to share this outside of the Thornhill community, anyone can bid!
In light of everything going on, in our community with our wonderful teachers, we need to fundraise more than ever!
Our Annual Benefit Auction raises 50% of the PFC annual budget. The community has come together with various donations that will help make this Auction a SUCCESS!
Ticket sales are closed now but if you'd still like to make a donation, you can do so on our auction website. If you missed out this year, make sure you join us next year.
We look forward to seeing everyone that purchased a ticket and celebrating Thornhill’s 60th Anniversary with you! Check out Auction Catalog to be ready to go on Saturday!
