Delran High School Broadcast
May 27, 2021
A Message from Mr. Finkle!
I hope that everyone is enjoying the wonderful weather that we have been having. When we return to school, it will be June already. I have remarked to several of you that the days seem to be so long; however, the year went very quickly. It has been an amazing year and I look forward to a strong finish. Please remember that Tuesday, June 1st is an Single-Session day and Friday, May 28th and Monday, May 31st schools are closed!
To that end, we need to disseminate information about the book, material, and Chromebook return system that we will have in place.
On Monday, June 14th, all in-person students must return their school-issued Chromebooks, sleeves, and chargers during their respective Physical Education class. Your child will submit these school items to a PE teacher at a designated table in the Gymnasium. There will be a designated table for students’ Chromebooks for each grade. If your child forgets to bring in any of the three items, the school personnel will make a note. Please encourage your child to submit any forgotten items to the Main Office by the next school day. If your child’s Chromebook is damaged, an IT personnel will notify you of the fee to cover any damages. Checks must be payable to Delran Township Board of Education and can be dropped off or mailed to the DHS Main office. Aside from returning their Chromebooks, in-person students will also return their classroom books/materials to their respective teachers during the entire week of June 14th.
On Tuesday, June 15th, there will be a Chromebook/Materials Return for remote students only. There will be a morning and an afternoon drop-off period solely for remote students to return their school-issued Chromebooks, the sleeve, charger, and other classroom books or materials. Students should only return their Chromebooks IF they have a personal device to use for the remaining days of the school year.
The morning drop-off period is: 9-10 a.m. in the bus lane. The afternoon drop-off period is: 1-3 p.m. in the front of the school parking lot near the Main office entrance.
If you cannot attend the June 15th Returns Day, the last day to return your child’s school-issued Chromebook and classroom materials is Friday, June 18th in the Main office. Please direct any questions or concerns to Assistant Principal, Dr. Bowen via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Parking at Calvary Church:
We have been informed by Calvary Church that on Friday, June 4th and Monday, June 7th, Calvary Church’s back parking lot will be unavailable for student parking. Juniors are not permitted to park on campus unless they have a parking permit. If a junior would like a parking permit, he/she can pay $5 to retrieve one from the Main office.
Class of 2021:
We are looking forward to a picnic for the Class of 2021 on Wednesday, June 16th, graduation rehearsal on Thursday, June 17th at 12 PM and Friday, June 18th at 8 AM, and then graduation on the evening of the Friday, June 18th at 6:00 PM.

HIGH SCHOOL HAPPENINGS
2021 Academic Awards/Scholarship Night
Congrats Sydney Croly
Congratulations to Sydney Croly who won the Burlington County Scholastic League Patriot Division Scholar-Athlete of the Year! She is included in the video below about half way through. She is also going to be the Delran Representative as the NJSIAA Scholar Athlete Award winner.
Congrats May Students-of-the-Month
Christopher McCrum – Grade 10
Upon hearing the news that one of the students at DHS has Brain Cancer, Chris McCrum jumped into action. Chris spends his Fridays playing his saxophone in Haddonfield for donations. He uses this as his spending money. Once he discovered a student was in need, he took his gift of music and used it to help the student. Chris made signs for his classmate (who he did not know well) and gave all the donations to the student's fund. Chris donated $300.00, as well as his time, for a student in need. No one asked him to do this, or prompted him. He decided this on his own! Chris is a wonderful example showing respect and community for his Delran Family.
Jayden Hinds – Grade 11
Jayden recently transferred to Delran from NYC. Despite having to move during an incredibly difficult year, Jayden has made every effort to adapt to his new community. In history, he turns in every assignment, answers questions in class, and has done exceedingly well on his assessments. He has joined the football team and already has established a rapport with the staff and players. It’s almost as if he was born to be a Delran Bear!
Delran Reads - Summer Assignment
In an effort to continue to encourage reading over the summer, we have again created a list of top-rated, high-interest books. Students at Delran High School will be required to read a book of their choice over the summer. Please view this presentation for information about the reading choices. Included you will find plot descriptions and parental information. All books are recommended for Grades 9-12, unless otherwise noted.
Please consult with your children, as students will be choosing their top choice book to read this summer during English class. Students are reminded to make note of their book choice. Each student is only responsible for reading one (1) book. No changes may be made after the final selection is provided.
A school wide culminating assessment will follow at the beginning of the 2021-2022 school year.
DHS College Essay Workshop
This workshop is designed for members of the Class of 2022 who plan to apply to colleges in the fall of 2021. At the end of this course, students will have a completed final draft of a college application essay. DHS students will be given preference, but students from other schools may also enroll starting on June 1st.

The DHS Fitness Center is open for any interested DHS students. The available time slot for Monday through Thursday is 2:30-3:30. If you are interested in using the Fitness Center after school, there are two steps that need to take place.
- A completed Fitness Center Permission form must be completed and returned to either Garrett Lucas or Jim Puglia at DHS. The form can be located here.
- The Fitness Center coordinators will be using SignUp Genius to keep track of who is using the facility each day. This program will allow DHS to keep the number of people in the fitness center at 25. It has been determined that 25 people would allow for appropriate spacing so that everyone can remain safe while working out. 15 students will be able to sign up each day. The other 10 spots will be reserved for DHS teams to use if needed. Masks must be worn at all times while in the fitness center. Cleaning equipment after each use is mandatory.
