Rose Glen Elementary - SIGNIFICANTLY EXCEEDS EXPECTATIONS
Dear Families,
Thank you for your interest and engagement in your child’s progress this year!
As you may be aware, the Department of Public Instruction (DPI) has released the 2017-18 state School Report Cards for all public schools in Wisconsin. I’m writing you today to share our scores so that as a school community we can celebrate our success!
The Report Cards are intended to help all schools and districts utilize data on specific measures to target improvement efforts to ensure students are ready for the next educational step – including the next grade level, graduation, college, and careers. According to the data, we significantly exceeded expectations again for the 2017-18 school year. We are proud of our accomplishments and the growth made by our students.
It is important to remember that one test score taken on one day does not reflect your child’s overall progress. However, our Report Card highlights our collective efforts to ensure that all students are reaching their highest potential. We could not do it without your support and your continued commitment to your child and to our school.
You can access our School Report Card here. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any further questions.

Staff Scrip Holiday Gift Card Program
Dear Rose Glen Families:
The holidays are a great time to say “Thank You” to all of the teachers and staff that make Rose Glen a wonderful school for our children.
The Staff Scrip Holiday Gift Card Program has been so well received these last several years, we are once again offering this opportunity.
Here’s how it works:
You voluntarily make any monetary gift to the teachers/staff members of your choice on behalf of your child/family. Your gift is then combined with all the other gifts for that particular staff member, and thus “snowballed” into a larger monetary amount to purchase a Scrip Gift Card of that staff members choice.
The Scrip Gift Cards will be given to the staff members just before holiday break with a note containing only the names of all the families who contributed (not the amounts).
To give a gift from your child(ren)/family, please complete the following steps:
1. Complete the form that was sent on Friday by listing your child’s name and amount by the staff member you are choosing to give a gift. (NOTE: please make sure amounts are in $1 increments with a minimum of $1 per recipient).
For Example: The Williams family has two children Jane and Jack. Jane would like to give $5 to her homeroom teacher, and $1 each to her Phy Ed, Music and Art teachers. Jack would also like to give $5 to his homeroom teacher and $1 each to his Phy Ed, Music and Art teachers. They both would like to give $1 each to the principal and the three helpful ladies in the office. So the Williams family would indicate that information on the form and send in $20.
2. Send the total amount of money and the completed form in a sealed envelope to school addressed “Staff Scrip”, no later than Thursday, November 29th
3. Please make checks payable to Rose Glen PTO, and double check that all the amounts add up to the Total Gift Amount you listed on the attached form.
If you have any questions, please feel free to contact:
Megan Peterson at megan@megndale.com
Melissa Nikolic at 970-2410 or mnikolic@waukesha.k12.wi.us
Thank you all for your continued support, and have a wonderful holiday season!
~Rose Glen PTO
Raptor System
We would like to make you aware of a security upgrade at all of our schools.
Beginning Monday, Nov. 26th, all visitors who enter a school building during normal school hours will be required to check into the school office and present a valid Identification ( Drivers License, State Issued ID, Military ID, or Consular ID ). Upon arrival, the identification will be scanned using the Raptor Visitor Management System. This software was purchased using funds provided by the State of Wisconsin School Safety Grant. Raptor provides immediate, real-time background checks on individuals to identify sex offenders and deny them entry.
Once a visitor has been scanned, the system will print a visitor ID badge that is worn by the visitor for the duration of their visit. We ask that the visitor present their ID each time they visit and a new visitor badge will be printed. As staff members, we ask that you contact the office anytime a visitor is seen in your school without an ID that has been generated by Raptor. Of course, a School District of Waukesha ID is expected to be worn by all employees while in school.
We appreciate your cooperation and understanding with this new procedure, and know that you share our desire to keep our students and our buildings safe. Thank you.

Lost and Found!
Please take a look at the below items and let us know if you recognize any of them. As many of you are aware, we tend to accumulate A LOT of lost items throughout the year. We are trying to minimize this for the upcoming year. Each week we will send a picture of lost items for you to claim. If they are not claimed then we will ensure that they go to a donation center in our area. What is most helpful is if you label your child's clothing and school items. We can then easily identify the item and make sure that the lost item is found and hopefully also save you a trip to have to buy another one. Please label items such as jackets, sweatshirts, water bottles, and lunchboxes. As winter approaches please make sure that you label boots, snow pants, hats, and mittens. Black snow pants seem to be a favorite here at Rose Glen and so labeling them will ensure that everyone has there own black snow pants and that if a pair gets lost then we can ensure it gets to the right child. Thank you for your help with this and looking forward to year with minimal lost items :) Please email Cathe Sweet at csweet@waukesha.k12.wi.us if you recognize any of the items.

Frequently asked questions:
Who needs to enroll their child for Kindergarten in the Waukesha District?
Families who are not enrolled in the School District’s 4K program or new families to the School District of Waukesha with a five-year-old (or child who will turn five on or before September 1, 2019)
If my child goes to 4K at a District community site, do I still need to enroll him/her for Kindergar
If your child goes to any of the District 4K programs, you do not need to fill out any more enrollment paperwork. Even if your child goes to 4K at a Community Partner site, we have already enrolled him or her in your neighborhood school.
When should I do this – how soon?
The District’s enrollment period to register for Kindergarten is December 1, 2018-February 1, 2019. So, if your child is not in 4K, you should enroll him/her for kindergarten as soon as possible. If your child goes to 4K, watch for a form to come home with him or her that re-verifies the accuracy of the enrollment information we have on file. Make any necessary changes and send it back to your 4K site with your child. There is no need to re-enroll for Kindergarten and we will make any changes you indicate on your child’s information sheet.
When will I find out about Kindergarten Orientation at my child’s school?
Your school will contact you in April or May about Kindergarten Orientation for you and your child. Every school holds their own K Orientation. We are trying to make our K Orientation as supportive of children’s transition to school as we can!
Who do I call if I still have questions about Kindergarten enrollment?
Questions regarding Kindergarten enrollment and attendance area schools can be directed to the Enrollment Office at 262-970-1024.

Lego League News
FIRST LEGO League Jr. (our first through third grade students)
FLL Jr. teams build a LEGO model and display board that show what they have learned regarding their research topic. For this year's theme, "Mission Moon", students researched how to get water, air, and energy while living on the moon and built a model of a moon base showing how they would get and store what they needed to live.
Teams will meet with a panel of judges to show off their project and discuss what they've learned. Throughout the day, models and research will be on display in the pit area and teams love showing off what they've learned! There are also many other hands-on activities for all kids to participate in.
Space Unicorns will all be attending the expo on Saturday, December 8 Heritage Christian School inside Weatherstone Church (1500 S West Lane, New Berlin)
Rose Glen Rockets, Gravity Girls, and Cosmic Team will be attending the expo on Sunday, December 16 at Deer Creek Intermediate School (3680 S. Kinnickinnic Ave, St. Francis)

MY SCHOOL ANYWHERE - SCHOOL ONLINE DIRECTORY
Did you know that Rose Glen has an online family directory? Have you signed up yet? Having access to this directory is a great way for you to stay connected with other school families. It also is the way that you would get contact information for your child’s classmates, including information you would need for sending out birthday invitations via email or U.S. mail. (Please remember that unless your child is inviting the entire class, party invitations may not be distributed at school.)
Another important reason you may want to be included in the directory is to give your child the opportunity to be invited to birthday parties or other gatherings with classmates, since neither the teachers nor the office staff is able to share contact information with you. Hopefully you have already signed up for the family directory. If you have not, please take a few minutes to do so.
