Central Hub
May 2020 Edition
A Message From the Principal
It's hard to believe it is May and we are ending the year remotely. You have done an amazing job jumping into eLearning. Even though we don't know what the future holds, we do know we will be together again! For me, I cannot wait to see your children at school and welcome our new kindergarten students.
As I reflect on the year, our students and staff have accomplished so much. Although it is hard to capture the incredible changes in your children both academically and socially, I can honestly sum the year up by saying that Central Elementary is a wonderful place to learn and grow. Please take a moment to celebrate your child's teacher this week.
Before I close, I just want to take a moment to thank our incredible 2019-2020 PTO board and members.
President - Danielle Bell | Vice President - Nicole Rongo | Secretary - Connie Burns | Treasurer - Amy Sageser | Financial Secretary - Laura Miller
We greatly appreciate your dedication to the children and staff at Central Elementary. Your unwavering support is encouraging and lifts us throughout the year and especially during these challenging times. Be sure to read further in the newsletter to hear their generous announcement.
Finally, it has been a pleasure getting to know all of you and your children! Have a wonderful and productive last two weeks of eLearning and a restful summer break!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Julie Thacker

A SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT
One of the activities planned for this week was a classroom supply bar. We can't do that exactly as planned, so we decided to go even bigger!
The PTO Board has voted to allocated $5,000 to purchase many of the student supplies for the 2020-21 school year in bulk for every Central student.
We want to make sure your classrooms are stocked and ready when we are able to go back. We want to make sure families experiencing hardship have a lighter load this fall. We want everyone to see a tangible result from all of the efforts and giving throughout this past year.
You can find a list of the supplies we will be purchasing on the PTO website and a comparison of the previous and new/reduced lists in the attached document. The school supply kits are currently being edited to reflect the PTO's contribution and the school will also be able to help fill the remaining supply needs of any families.
More Fun Opportunities to Celebrate and Support Central Elementary
Our amazing PTO have updated their website with Spirit Wear Orders, Incoming Kindergarten shirts, Virtual Scholastic Book Fair, and school supply kits for 2020-2021.
- 2nd grade: Design Thinking STEM manipulatives
- Mrs. Mitchell: Soft start activities
- Mrs Pagels: Stem Bins
- Mrs Szepski: Light table and accessories
We look forward to our continued partnership as we start to plan for next year!
Visit the Central Elementary PTO Website for social media links, alerts, current events and fundraising.

Collecting Loaned-Out Laptops
Please note the following for 5th graders and any student moving to another school: You must drop the laptop off at our office no later than May 20. The office is open 8:00-11:30 and 12:30-3:00 Monday through Friday. Parents make sure to leave the laptop with an office staff member and not just leave it in the entrance foyer.
Thank you!!
Tech Support
If a parent or student has a tech question, have them email support@plainfield.k12.in.us. They just need to include their name/student name, contact info, and a description of the problem they are having. This will help the tech department tremendously as we can see any and all issues for the entire corporation and can help each other for every building.
If you have any questions or issues, please still use plainfield.sherpadesk.com and submit a help desk ticket.

Georgia's desk is kept clean and organized, even when she has many different items in the desk. She helps to clean up the classroom and cares about how things look and if they are clean. Keep up the great work, Georgia!
