Greetings Lemira Family:
Welcome to a new week of learning, growth, and opportunities. We will continue to motivate, inspire, and educate all students to be college and career ready. We will continue to forge forward with "Leading and Learning with Intention and Optimism as we Nurture the Success of all Students", for we are the L.I.O.N.S.
Congrats!
(Newspaper Article)
The Lions have made it to the newspaper again this week! The Lions were awarded a grant from the "Alliance for a Healthier Generation". Through this grant, our gardening club was able to gain gardening equipment, along with seeds/transplants for a year's worth of supply. The students in this gardening club will grow fruits and vegetables, which will be later donated to a charity of choice in our local community.

Congratulations to the following students (Alayshia, Kenyatta, Xavier, Reagan, and Aidan) for being recognized and honored by the Sumter Police Department for their submitted essay or artwork in the Sumter PD “Black History Art/Essay” contest. Students received a certificate and restaurant gift card.
Congratulations to Ms. Rogers' 4th Grade class for winning the school level "Tree-Planting" contest. Students were given tree saplings to grow in their own yards. The 4th grade class who had the most planted trees won a pizza party!
Announcements
1. March 16, 2022 - March 16th is a half day for students. Due to our district wide professional development, all students will dismiss at 11am. Please inform the office/teacher in writing of any changes in transportation. If your student will be a car rider, please also ensure the driver is aware of the car number. This will assist us in ensuring students are safely picked up by the correct driver.
2. Changes in Covid Guidelines: (Per District)
Sumter School District is suspending contact tracing and close contact quarantine practices as of Thursday, March 10, 2022. This change in procedure is in accordance with the recently updated COVID-19 Guidelines issued by SCDHEC on February 2, 2022. Data from the last two weeks indicates that no district schools or locations have had 10 percent or more of their students or staff absent due to COVID-19.
The attached SCDHEC guidelines will remain in effect unless the school or district location has 10 percent or more of students and staff absent due to COVID-19. If this 10 percent threshold is met or exceeded for two consecutive weeks, the contact tracing and quarantine requirements will have to be reinstated.
It is important to note that any student or staff member who tests positive for COVID-19 or displays symptoms is still required to stay home from school and should report positive test results to their school.
3. Science Fair Projects are due March 22nd. Grades PreK - 2 will do class projects. Grades 3rd - 5th will submit individual projects. The school will host grade level science fair winners.
