Advanced Serching
By Aleck Gardner
Why use advanced searching?
Advanced searching can be used to find more precise information about what you are trying to find out. For example, if you were searching for a film, google (or other search engines) will search for everything containing that word or pharse, but, by using advanced serching you could just search for the film without all the rubbish.
How to use advanced searching?
Boolean Searching
The word 'AND': Items containing "North Carolina" and "prohibition." AND narrows a search, resulting in fewer hits. This means your information is more precise. This is a example of Boolean searching.
Another example of Boolean searching is using the word 'NOT'. For example, if you searched Mexico NOT Spain, then you wont get any results inculding the word 'Spain' be careful though, this technique can cause some relevant information to not show up.
