NEWS & NOTES
Our vision should be known by all. In breaking this down, our learning environment will be:
- Positive- set the tone in our classrooms by building relationships and reinforcing positive behavior
- Engaging- instruction will be interactive and driven by student needs. This means intentional planning through posted I CAN statements aligned to daily lessons.
- Rigorous- Our instruction needs to be challenging and aligned to standards. Deconstructing standards into skills and teaching how to apply the skills is the end game. Critical thinkers are the desired outcome.
Shout outs for the week:
- THANK YOU for a strong start back from break. Continuing pushing SOAR expectations throughout the building.....and maintain those high expectations!!!
- THANK YOU for some GREAT instructional conversations at PLC's. One thing that was lifted from our AIO visit this past week.....YOU KNOW YOUR DATA!!!!
- WELCOME ABOARD Ms. Katherine Wood (K Teacher), Ms. Emily Abrams (K-3 SPED Assistant), and Ms. Danielle Jones (Staff Custodian). Help them to feel a part of the Wendell Phillips family!
As soon as I get an update, I will let you know when we will send Report Cards home to parents. We are awaiting final word from IT about fixes to the errors we saw on Report Cards. I am sorry for the late notice in all of this, including the postponement of the award assembly. Report Cards are legal documents and therefore need to be accurate before we send them home; any alterations to them can affect the integrity of the document. Additionally, I do not want to hold any Honor Roll activities until parents can recieve a copy of the actual report card. Stay tuned for updates....
Mini's evaluations will resume this week. Focus during evals will be on alignment of I CAN statements to instructional content, engagement of students, and use of the gradual release model to support student achievement. Feedback will be delivered to you within 48 hours of the evaluation. Remember, this is a growth model cycle and the goal is to see growth in your instructional practices throughout the year. Where you are now is not where you will end up!!
Data Walls are looking good. Please make sure to make adjustments and add new data to the walls. They are not static....but living artifacts of your student's progress in their mastery of standards and skills. Progress monitoring student achievement is crucial....so please make sure this is happening per our Progress Monitoring expectations shared by coaches for K-2 (DIBELS/TRC) and RAPS360 (3-6). This is all part of the Mastery Learning Cycle....how are you getting your students to OWN their performance???
Our Learning Community Meeting Wednesday morning will be an opportunity for our MTSS team to share what they learned at training, as well as for us to look at Chapter 2 of the Eric Jensen book "Engaging Students with Poverty in Mind". Please be prepared to answer the questions included in the Google Doc we completed this summer. The link is listed below.
Public Impact, the group supporting our work around our Opportunity Culture model of Multi-Classroom Leaders (MCL's) and Aspiring Teachers in grades 3-6, will be making a site visit to see the models in action. Teachers this affects will receive a schedule for the visit. I will explain in PLC's next week.
Reminder....students are NOT in school on Tuesday, November 8th. It is a workday for ALL staff. We will be having ESL PD in the morning and you will have planning time with your grade level teams and support staff after. Lunch will be provided!!! Please take the time to vote in the morning....report time will be 9:00 am that day.
