OLVCS Updates
October 16, 2020
Dear Parents,
This week we received our shipment of 70 Chromebooks! As the image with Mrs. Dible shows, it was quite a shipment. In the coming weeks, our InShore IT specialist, Dan Gochnour, will configure these devices with all the appropriate apps, etc. and then will be distributed to the students. Thank you again to all who donated to our Walk-A-Thon in order to make this happen.
The poem below shared by Olivia Kurpeikis is a perfect example of how we feel here at OLV. We are still very grateful for the parents, families, friends, and parishioners that have been supportive through all of our efforts.
Taking on the heart of Jesus,
Chad Packer, MEd
Principal, OLVCS

Youth Protections Training: Well Worth The Effort
The Diocese requires that all adults who wish to volunteer at OLVCS complete the required application forms, online trainings, and submit required clearances. This process can take a few weeks to complete, so it is important start the process soon. But, it is well worth it. With this completed you can volunteer at OLVCS, which is a great way to give back...and see your child in "action."
To learn more and begin the process, go to https://www.olvcatholicschool.org/youthprotection Once you complete your training, contact your student's teacher about ways that you can help.
Victory is Always Sweet, Even When It's Soggy
Despite the rain on Monday, our Crusaders' spirits were at an all time high. The game against the Belleville Mennonite Cardinals ended in the OLVCS team's first win, 3-1. While Crusaders Karimar R. and Brynn W. scored consecutive goals, the Cardinals did not give up, scoring one of their own. The win was sealed with a goal by Lily S. off a great pass from Maria S.
Following the game Coach Rob Venema recognized all the 8th grade student-athletes for their integrity and fortitude. "(O)ur 8th grade class...had the courage to face the possibility of no season at all and come out to participate anyway," said Venema. "They trained hard and kept up a high work ethic despite every set back... They have...grown and matured as result. They have persevered challenging times, their character has been tested and they have gone through that with dignity and grace - and that is success achieved through excellence." Mrs. Straub gave each 8th grade student a hand-made memento for the season.
The Crusaders traveled to Philipsburg on Thursday for a final face off with the PO Mounties. This was our teams first game on artificial turf. The Crusaders fought hard and had a few attempts on goal, but nothing went in. The Crusaders fell to the Mounties, 0-2.
The team will take on the Belleville Mennonite Cardinals again next week (in Belleville), as their final game of the season.
Indoor Soccer Practice Team Now Forming For OLVCS Students in Grades 6-8
Coach Venema has graciously offered again this year to coach an indoor soccer team so that OLVCS student-athletes can keep working on their soccer skills. This team is open to all OLVCS students in grades 6-8--so even students who did not play on the OLVCS team this season are welcome to come out to play. The team will compete in local soccer competitions over the coming months, as dictated by interest of the players/families.
This is NOT an OLVCS-sponsored team, but rather a privately run program. Parents/guardians of students who participate are responsible for any fees, transportation, etc. For more information, contact Mr. Rob Venema at olvcs.soccer@gmail.com or 814-571-6018.

- Boys Team: Mondays and Wednesdays, 6:30-8PM (began on 10/14)

Wolfpack Soccer Plays Strong
As the Wolfpack Soccer Teams are coming to the end of the regular season, both teams are playing strong. On Monday, with the skill of OLVCS alumni, Issac Bevilacqua, Sam Yangula and Kyle Yangula, the SJCA boys team beat their cross-town rival, Grace Prep, 5-2. Stop, Drop and Roll at OLV Preschool
With the support and materials donated by the Alpha Fire Company, the OLV Preschool Pre-K students learned important fire safety lessons this week. Because OLV Preschool teachers know that preschoolers learn best when having fun, the teachers used a song and dance to impressed on the students the importance of fire safety.
