Fun Friday
Ro-Sham-Bo
To wrap up National School Counselor Week/Super Bowl Spirit week and to have a little fun on a Friday we did a school wide Rock, Paper, Scissor Battle! When students and staff got to school they were given a necklace to wear. Students could then challenge any student to a rock, paper, scissor, battle. If they lost they had to give the other person all of their necklaces. Once they got 5 necklaces they could challenge any staff member. At the end of the day we had the students and staff who had 5 or more necklaces left battle it out for a final winner! The winner gets bragging rights, will start the day with 5 necklaces next time we do this and received a $20 gift card to Boone and Bounty.
Our FIRST Ever- Rock, Paper, Scissor CHAMPION is 7th grader Austin Jacobson!!

Students and Staff of the Week
This year the Leadership class has decided to change how student and staff awards are given. This will be done twice a month, with 1 boy and 1 girl winning from each grade level. One week we will have girl winners and one week we will have boy winners. The leadership class was able to get some Gift Card donations from local businesses to add to the award gift package. Teachers are also asked to be more thoughtful and provide the why with their nomination. When teachers nominate students they are looking for the following:
Integrity
Responsibility
Respect
Effort
5th Grade- Erin Bolinger
6th Grade- Ellie McCollum
7th Grade- Payton Snyder

We started to learn about our first Career Cluster this week! First, we talked about what a Career Cluster was -- a group of jobs. If you took all the jobs in the world, you could categorize them by their characteristics into groups. Over the next few weeks, we are going to be looking at six different career clusters. But this week, we looked at the Agricultural Science Career Cluster and learned about jobs like Veterinarian, Veterinarian Technician, Zoologist, Farmer and Gardener.
I also wanted to share the poem that I read to the students at the end of the class period...
Pick a career that catches your eye,
That sparks an enthusiasm that you cannot deny,
More towards what you want rather than what you need,
That ignites a burning passion within so you can succeed,
Trust your passions, take calculated risks too,
Dare to take a career path chosen by few,
Take advice from many, carefully weigh the pros and cons,
For a career is what you do through many dusks and dawns,
Do not blindly follow your parents or peers,
And end up working a career that you will regret for years,
Be independent, make your own choices in life,
Choose a career as if you are choosing a husband or wife,
Pick a career you love and make sure you love what you do,
The most profound advice that will bring happiness to you,
Focus less on the money and more on what evokes zest,
Once you have found it, you will surely be the best!

In order for this event to be successful, we need some help with transportation from parents. Parents, please fill out THIS GOOGLE FORM to help us start making travel arrangements so all of our students have a successful experience!
THANK YOU!
As we wrap up National School Counseling Week, I wanted to let all of the Jeff West Middle School parents know how much I appreciate them. It truly does take a village to raise these middle schoolers, and I'm honored to be a part of yours. I have also included an infographic about all of the cool things I get to do as your student's school counselor.
