October Life skill for the month- “FRIENDSHIP”
Friendship is to make and keep a friend through mutual trust and caring.
October is National Bullying Prevention Month. Students will be encouraged to participate in Unity Day on October 23, 2019 by wearing ORANGE to show the visual impact of communities united to end bullying behaviors.
During the month of October students will learn ways to make and keep friends by recognizing the qualities of a friend and practicing communication skills that improve peer interactions. Concepts such as “fairness” and “forgiveness” will be discussed in Guidance in an effort to help students recognize that making and keeping friends takes effort and care. It’s difficult to imagine life without friends to share our ups and downs. Having a friend improves self-esteem, as well as the quality and enjoyment of life. Encourage your child to read books about friendship.
Friendship Books:
-Three Stories by Laura Vaccaro Seeger
-My Friend is Sad by Mo Willems
-Frog and Toad Are Friends by Arnold Lobel
-Do You Want to Be My Friend? by Eric Carle
-My Best Friend by Pat Hutchins
-Making Friends is an Art by Julia Cook
-How to be Friends by Laurie Krasny Brown and Marc Brown
Please let me know if there is anything I can do for your child this year.
