A&M Consolidated High School
News from Elder's Desk
The 4th Annual Student Appreciation week was remarkable. Our students were thankful for the goodies, games, and community agencies they were able to interact with last week. To observe the smiles on our students’ faces, to spot the sparkle in our students’ eyes, or to hear, “I feel appreciated” or “thank you,” brought happiness to my spirit. If you were intentional in going above and beyond for our students last week, thank you!
During our 4th Annual Breakfast of Champions event last Friday, we recognized over 800 students for All A's or A/B Honor Roll for the fall semester. Our speaker and Consol 2014 graduate, Dana Branham was inspirational. She reflected on the amazing teachers and opportunities she experienced at AMCHS, shared how she was at-risk of losing her academic scholarship, and she told our students how she rebounded from her failure. Though Dana found herself in a situation that she had never encountered, she recovered from her failure by persevering through her challenges and surrounding herself with a supportive family and friend group. There is no doubt that the foundation laid at AMCHS paved the way for her to have a successful career in journalism. In 2018, Dana was awarded a Pulitzer Prize for the story she reported on the heroin epidemic in Cincinnati. Currently, Dana is employed with the Dallas Morning News as a news journalist.
