August 12, 2019~~~ A Newsletter for Teachers and Staff
Welcome Back!
In every job that must be done, there is an element of fun. You find the fun, and snap! The job's a game. ~Mary Poppins
Team Central,
When looking for a quote in the newsletter, I try to pick ones in which we can all connect. This one jumped out at me today as one that helps me maintain perspective. Not everything in our world of education is perfect. Right now we are still trying to fill a few positions, so we are down a few folks around campus. We have a roof that isn't complete with two whole grade levels displaced on Day 1 of school. We are chomping at the bit to get our hands on the new Ready Classroom math curriculum, and we stress over making the right adjustments that will help move our school to a "B" this year! To put it simply, this year is already starting out with a few challenges and I would like nothing more then to have had everything perfect on Day 1 for you, but that's okay.
As I write this, I have had to stop to go check leaks and work on doors. But...it really is okay. How is it okay you may ask? Because we have a sense of humor and we know that this too shall pass. It's all okay, if we take it in stride and apply that sense of humor. We can find the silver lining if we look. Several times this past week, staff have found a way to make me laugh and make their colleagues laugh over things that might normally send us over the edge. I am thankful for a quality leadership team that works hard, makes me laugh, and finds solutions!
We do have high hopes for this year and I believe we will indeed be a "B" school this year! If we do four very important, yet simple things. The first I already mentioned; have a sense of humor, Lord knows we need it! Secondly, we have to love our kids. All of them, no matter what their background. If we love them we will build meaningful relationships with them and they will come each day excited to learn, eager to see their friends and mentors, and relieved to enter Central Elementary; a safe haven for them no matter what they may be facing elsewhere.
Third, we need to think positively and come each day ready to solve the challenges we face. If something is wrong, we can work together to find the solution. A positive attitude doesn't mean that we deny challenges or bad circumstances, but it does mean we get up, brush ourselves off and seek to find solutions, rather than blaming and putting others down.
Lastly, we must strive each day to improve our pedagogy, our craft, our instruction. Are we having meaningful discussions with our colleagues, students and co-workers? Are we growing and developing our skills? Are our students successful at the tasks we present them with and are those tasks rigorous and aligned to the standards?
It truly is a work of heart to improve on instruction that I believe is already good (data proves this)and strive to make it excellent!
Thanks for all that you have done already this past week to support your colleagues and ready yourself for the arrival of your students. This is going to be an amazing year! Thank you for your dedication to Central Elementary.
