Gender Pronouns and Why They Are Important

This discussion is geared for adults to understand gender pronouns, their uses, and why they are important. Join Susan Kaliszewski, PA for General Internal Medicine at the University of Iowa Hospitals, as she leads this discussion and more as the conversation develops.

Dolly Parton Imagination Library

Get FREE BOOKS for your child! Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library mails free high-quality, age-appropriate books to children from birth to age five! The Ely, Iowa, Friends of the Public Library partnership with Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library ensures all children in our community, with a mailing zip code of 52227, can have a great selection of books at home.

SUMMER READING 2022

Summer Programs

It's not too late to sign up for Summer Reading, so stop by and get your reading logs! Completed logs must be turned in by August 1st to be entered into the Grand Prize Drawings. We have logs for all ages birth - 100+!


We also invite you to attend one of our awesome programs held every day at 2 pm. Each day has a different theme. Be sure to pick up a calendar or visit our website for details!


Our events are open and free to anyone.

One Book One Community

August 3rd @6:30pm Book Discussion


This is our third year of providing a community-wide reading program centering around one title and chosen for the whole family to read together. On August 3rd, there will be an in-person and virtual opportunity for discussion and activities for the whole family focusing on the book. Families who register and participate are entered into drawings. This year we will be providing a copy (one per family please) of the title "The Lonely Heart of Maybelle Lane" by Kate O'Shaughnessy.

Indoor Fort Building and Family Reading

Babygarten

Babygarten is an educational curriculum for babies featuring songs, movement, literacy tips, and free play. Recommended for children under 3 years of age.

Toddler Time

Toddler Time features stories, rhymes, songs, and interactive activities designed to get babies and toddlers acclimated to loving the library. Big siblings are welcome to join the fun!

Preschool Story Time

Designed for kiddos aged 3-5 but open to all, Preschool Story Time is a half hour of books, songs, and activities followed by a craft.

Power of Play

During the summer at 10am on Tuesdays, STEM toys will be in our conference room to play with independently. No librarians will be present. For all ages!

LIBRARY RESOURCES

Ely Food Pantry

The food pantry that we started for the derecho is continuing to serve the community through a partnership with HACAP. Items are available in the lobby for anyone who needs them. Neighbors Helping Neighbors!


We are accepting the following items:

  • Unexpired, non-perishable food items
  • No-heat meals
  • Peanut butter
  • Fruit in squeeze pouches
  • Diapers, wipes, formula,
  • Feminine hygiene products
  • Toiletries, paper towels, and cleaning supplies
  • Water


We are no longer accepting shoes and clothing.

Hotspots

Going on a trip? Know you will be without internet for a few days? We have hot spots available! Hot spots can be checked out for a week at a time, with an option for renewal depending on supply and demand.

DIY Depot

We have new crafts to pick up in the DIY Depot this month. Pick one up and lure your children away from their screens!

We are looking for some good friends to help us plan some fun upcoming programs! We meet on the 2nd Wednesday of the month @ 7:30pm. Join us and learn how you can be involved!

1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Children who are read to at home are better prepared for school and continue to do well throughout their academic career. Every time you or another loved one read a book with your child you are providing early learning opportunities. We offer a 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program to help you track the number of books read and provide little rewards along the way. If you would like to enroll your child in this free and fun initiative, give us a call 848-7616! You do not need to live in Ely to register!
