Key Club
Onslow Early College's Key Club will be participating in a restaurant night at Fuzzy Peach on December 3. Make sure you go out and show your support!
We also will be taking a small group to Thompson Early Childhood on December 13. We will be leaving campus at 8:15, and will return to campus by 9:20. Students will be participating in a Holiday Book reading to students at the school.

Italy and Greece Trip
There are still spots available for our upcoming Greece and Italy trip in 2021! Some of the places we will see include:
- Rome, with a guided tour of Vatican City! We will see the Sistine Chapel and St. Peter's Basilica
- Roman Catacombs, Roman Forum and Colosseum
- Florence! Piazza della Signoria, Ponte Vecchio, Basilica of Santa Croce, Gates of Paradise
- Ferry to Greece
- Visit Meteora monstery
- Delphi, Temple of Apollo and Delphi Archaelogical Museum
- We will end our evening with a Greek eveing of theatre, dance, and music
- Athens with a visit to the Olympic Stadium, Acropolis, Plaka district, Athenian Trilogy
CCCC News and Events
CCCC One Book, One Community Event
On behalf of the 2019-2020 One Book, One Community committee we are beyond pleased to be able to announce that Abdi Nor Iftin, author of Call Me American will be coming to Coastal Carolina Community College on Wednesday, April 22, 2020. Abdi will be speaking at 2:00 pm in Bodenhamer Auditorium followed by book signing at 3:00.
He will also be speaking to the Jacksonville community at Northside High School Auditorium at 7:00 pm that evening followed by another opportunity for book signing. For more information be sure to check One Book, One Community from the Coastal Carolina Community College library website.
OECHS Class Updates
English
English I Honors: This week, students completed their final essay for English I Honors, their documented source essay. We finished our analysis of Richard Connell's "The Most Dangerous Game" and began to discuss requirements for the final exam. Next week, students will continue their study of Short Fiction with Washington Irving's work, "The Devil and Tom Walker." We will begin to finish up our portfolios after Thanksgiving break, but students are encouraged to update all items in portfolios before they return to school on December 2.
Graduation Project: Five students chose to complete the graduation project and will be working independently and during seminar time. Student presentations will be December 5, 2019.
Math
Honors Math 2: The average overall in each class is an A! Students had a quiz on Friday covering similar triangles and basic trigonometry. These quiz grades will be in PowerSchool by the end of the weekend. On Monday and Tuesday next week students will be working on an in class trigonometry project. They may chose to work alone or with one other person.
Honors Math 4: Monday we will be covering geometric sequences and series. On Tuesday students will take a practice 4 year college math placement test created by ECU.
Social Studies
Civics and Economics:This week we finished our study of the Judicial Branch with our test on Thursday. We have begun our last unit which is on the U.S. Economy. Our first topic of discussion is resources, and how scarcity of resources impacts economic value. On Monday we will be doing an activity on the scarcity of resources. Tuesday we will be completing some classwork on the basic economic questions and the different types of economies. There will be no homework assigned over the Thanksgiving break.
AP WH: This week we studied the Mongols and how they contributed to the spread of the Plague. We also studied empires from Sub-Saharan Africa. We looked at their accomplishments and the impact trade had on their cultures. There is a homework assignment over the weekend to prepare us for our last topic for this unit which is The Americas, which we will begin studying after the break. There will be no homework assigned over the Thanksgiving break.
American History I Honors: We are frantically wrapping up American History 1! All semester we having been headed toward Civil War & we are now here. We completed Unit VI: Causes of the Civil War, tested Wednesday, and have started our study of the Civil War itself (or “The War of Northern Aggression” depending on your heritage!). We are examining President Lincoln’s stance on the war, the military advantages of each side, and the strategies each thought would win the war. Students have their study guides, maps, short answer questions, & Eyewitness to History articles to complete. We will test Unit VII on Wednesday, 12/4.

Science
Chem Honors: We are currently working on Unit 10: Thermodynamics. We will finish up our last portion Monday and then take our Unit 10 Test on Tuesday before we begin Thanksgiving Break. Once we return, we will finish up our last little section of information which will run that first week of December before we begin to review for our NCFE the second week of December. The Chem NCFE is scheduled for Dec 16.
APES: We are currently working on Unit 5: Land & Water Use. This is a fairly large unit and will be worked on up until the end of the first semester. Students have a Land Use lab that was assigned last week and is due on Dec 2 the day we return from Thanksgiving Break. They have the opportunity to finish it ahead of break so they don't have to worry about working on it during their days off. Also there will be a Unit 5 Quiz once we return from Thanksgiving Break.
Biology Honors: In Biology this Week we finished Ecology and we have started the beginning of the end. We covered Taxonomy and the 6 Kingdom system. We will start the Moneran Kingdom Monday, then hit Protista and Fungi before we get out for Thanksgiving. When we come back from Thanksgiving we will hit the Plants, then move into the Animal Kingdom and Conclude with Animal Behavior before we start reviewing for the State EOC in Biology
