A message about Halloween from our Special Education Director Dana Archuleta
Fall! My favorite time of year! The temperatures are finally cooling off and trees are changing colors. When I look down the neighborhood streets or to the mountains and see the trees changing colors, I am reminded of the beautiful that place we live in. Along with the Fall season comes the start of the holiday season. So much excitement is in the air as we start preparing for it. The first big holiday for most of us is Halloween!! Picking out pumpkins, decorating the house with ghosts and goblins, creating the perfect costume, carving a jack-o-lantern, and going trick-or-treating. For most of us this is all part of Halloween, but we must keep in mind there are those children who have a sensitivity to all of this “excitement”. Some children have a very difficult time wearing costumes. Something about the material just doesn’t feel right. Others are very sensitive to all the hustle and bustle of going from door to door and seeing all the decorations. It can just be downright overwhelming. So as Halloween and the start of the holiday’s approach, let’s keep in mind that there may be a reason why a child shows up at your door with no costume asking for candy, or will only come halfway into your yard and yell “Trick-or-Treat!”.
Let’s also keep in mind those teenagers out there who take the time to dress up and come to your door, or who may look like a teenager but may function emotionally a lot younger. Like the old saying goes, “Don’t judge a book by its cover!” Everyone deserves some candy!

Original Works!
Original Works is an art fundraiser that benefits your child's classroom and turns your child's art into a number of keepsakes, such as: mouse pads, coasters, magnets, notebooks, tote bags, night lights, mugs, and much more. Keepsakes make great gifts for the whole family. Ordering information will be coming home Wednesday the 25th as a 'Dear Family' letter. MMA is participating in the online gallery again, which means you will be able to see your child's art virtually projected on dozens of different keepsakes. You have until November 13th to place your orders.
If, after you receive your 'Dear Family' letter, you discover your child didn't submit art (or you're not happy with the one they did), it's not too late. Manual order forms will be available in the front office. Your child's original art (no Copyright infringement, please) needs to be completed on an 8.5" x 11" piece of paper and submitted to the front office by November 3rd.
Once orders have been submitted, the keepsakes will arrive on Friday December 1st. Thank you for your support and please feel free to contact Rachael Bush at rachael.bush@gmail.com with any questions. Thank you!
