Supporting Children Who Struggle with Eating: The Importance of Autonomy and Anxiety

This session will focus on the role of anxiety and autonomy around eating and feeding. We will discuss the importance of preserving the child's autonomy when at all possible as a key to reducing anxiety and increasing comfort and competence. Case vignettes will highlight how anxiety blocks progress and can sometimes look like or worsen sensory avoidance. Medical and developmental trauma and demand avoidance will also be considered.
