Athey Notes
Week 9
Welcome to Week 9!
Dear Athey Community,
We had a "spirited" week last week! On Friday, our leadership students along with Ms. Ruscigno and Mr. Sweet, organized an amazing, fun filled assembly on Friday. Students and staff competed against each other in minute to win it type games followed by the ultimate fashion show of teachers demonstrating the spirit wear themes for this week. Don't be surprised if your students raid your closets this week looking for neon, western, costumes, etc.
Our Championship Cross Country meet was cancelled last week due to the poor air quality but thankfully the rains have come and the air quality has improved. The meet has been rescheduled for today at Memorial Park - Go Cougars!!
This week marks the end of our first quarter. Please read further to learn more about revision and retake opportunities as well as how report cards work. One take away from conferences is that students could really benefit from time outside the classroom to ask questions and receive additional help on schoolwork. Please see our announcement below for our upcoming Homework Club! Now is a great time to check in with your students, go over ParentVue/StudentVue to check grades and look for any missing assignments.
Enjoy the fall weather and have a great week!
Sincerely,
Joel Sebastian
Athey Creek Middle School Principal

Grading: Revision & Retake Opportunities
With the end of the quarter approaching, we know there are a lot of conversations occurring about students retaking or revising summatives assessments to demonstrate their current learning. Each quarter, all teaching staff at Athey Creek dedicate two class periods for students to revise or retake summative assessments. When these days occur does vary from teacher to teacher but the two days will occur for each class throughout the quarter. If your student is needing to retake or revise a summative assessment, please check-in with them to see if one of those days will occur for that particular class this week or if they will need to make other arrangements with the teacher.
Grading: Report Cards
Quarter 1 grades will be available to view in ParentVue/StudentVue during the week of October 31st - we will send additional information about when exactly they will be available to view. There will be two options to view your student’s end-of-quarter grades, either by viewing a PDF of the report card in the “Documents” section or by clicking on the report card option in the menu - which will appear once grades are available to view. Please note that we will not be mailing home copies of report cards.
HOMEWORK CLUB
How to help your student meet their Daily Technology Needs
In order to help students be successful and prepared for classes, please have your student charge their chromebook at home every night to get a full charge on their computers. Students should have brought home a charger at the beginning of the year when they received their student devices and if a student charges their chromebook at home each night, the charge should be enough to last them throughout the entire day at school.
Students are also using headphones throughout the day in various classes, so please have your student bring their own set of headphones or earbuds daily to their classes.
While the library does have day-use check out items for students who forget their chromebooks or need headphones for the day, the supply is limited. If a student checks out a day-use charger, day- use computer, or day-use headphones, the device or item should be returned at the end of the day. We have students who are checking out these day-use items, but are not returning them to the library at the end of the day. Unfortunately this limits the supply of these items for check out to other students. If your student has one of these items, please have them return them to the library.
Picture Re-Take Day is RESCHEDULED
NOVEMBER 16th IS THE NEW RE-TAKE DAY!
One of Lifetouch's cameras did not upload properly to their printing lab. This resulted in a number of families not receiving their pictures. The lab now has all of the data and is working quickly to print all of the missing photos. In order to get them to families and let them have time to decide if they desire retakes we are rescheduling retake day to November 16th. Thank you all for your patient and understanding as we navigated this!
If you are buying pictures for the first time this year, and are paying by cash or check, give the money directly to the photographer. You may also visit mylifetouch.com and use picture day id: EVTZNM4W8 Also, now is a great time to order your yearbook for this year. Log on to ybpay.com and use yearbook ID code: 12414423
