A Message from the Principal
Greetings,
We are off to a great start this year. Students have had daily lessons about expected behaviors and we have been celebrating all their good choices. This year for our Friday morning exercise drawing, students will receive a sweatband. They are welcome to wear these or their buffs from last year EVERY Friday. I am so proud of our teachers for starting highly engaging academic activities on day one. Once again, the Maple VIBE is positive. It’s going to be a great year!
Our 3rd and 4th graders completed NWEA testing this week as a baseline for the year. Next week, our 1st and 2nd graders will test. Kindergarten does not test until January.
Our Annual Walk-A-Thon is coming right up on August 31st. Mark your calendar so you can join in the fun. We will kick off the event with students on August 20th, so look for additional information that night.
THANKS to all of you for being patient with arrival and dismissal procedures. Our buses should be running on time now and we continue to problem solve the pick-up/drop-off challenges. We have more car riders than we’ve ever had before at Maple.
Here are a few protocols to remember:
· Buses have the right of way, please leave an opening and allow them in and out of the parking lot.
· Your child is never tardy if the bus is late, but if they are late getting dropped off by a parent, they will be counted tardy.
· Please stay in line with cars, do not go around at any time. While this may save you a few seconds, it wouldn’t be worth a child getting hit.
· If your child needs help buckling up, please pull into the parking lot to help your child. There should never be a need to get out of your car while in the pick-up/drop-off lane. This allows our line to keep moving.
· Continue to be patient with us! This week has been much quicker and we are continuing to problem solve ways to make it even better for all of you.
Thanks to all of you for sharing your children with us each day! Have a wonderful weekend.
Sincerely,
Nikki Harrison

A Message from Your School Counselor
Welcome to the 2018-2019 School Year! We have some exciting events planned for the next month, including our annual Fall Screen-Free Week and another fun College Go! campaign! Keep watching this space for details.
One of my most gratifying jobs as a school counselor is meeting with children one on one or in small groups to help them cope with problems or worries so they can do their personal best. If I meet with your student more than once, I will contact you to share some general information about ideas I gave your child and answer any questions you have. Anything your child tells me is kept confidential unless there is a safety issue involved. This enables me to create a safe environment where children feel comfortable sharing their thoughts and feelings. Let me know if you have any questions about this or if you want to set up an appointment for your child.

The State of Indiana Department of Health sets the immunization requirements for students attending public schools in Indiana. Documentation of these vaccinations must be on file at school. Under Indiana Code 20-34-4 and 20-34-3-2, state law requires Avon Community School Corporation to exclude non–compliant students from school without proper immunization or documentation.
If we do not receive an updated immunization record or proper documentation for your student by the start of the school day on Tuesday September 4th, your child will be excluded from school and not allowed to return until our records are updated.
Please submit proper documentation of immunizations to Maple.
As your school nurse, I can answer any questions regarding immunization requirements and records, or you may want to direct personal health questions to your family doctor.
Thank you,
Heather Everidge-Adams
