A Note from our Principal
Greetings WPA Families,
We loved seeing our hallways full again this week and greeting so many of our favorite WPA faces as you and your student(s) joined us for Meet-the-Teacher and the first days of school.
The outpouring of support in classroom donations, signing up the help with PTO events, volunteering in the classrooms, learning the carpool procedures, and keeping up to date on school and classroom communication has been incredible this year. Your hard work makes WPA a fantastic place to work and to learn year after year.
New Year, Great Habits
The start of the year is a great time to kick off new habits or get back into old routines. We encourage families to keep reading at the forefront of their minds as they settle into what works for their family this year. Reading with your child is the most powerful way for parents to support their student's education. Reading aloud to your student, having them read to you, and keeping them reading independently ALL have excellent benefits well into Jr high school. This note includes a summary of some of the many ways reading benefits your student. Check it out!
Dress Code Reminder
We have had a lot of shoes this year that do not meet the dress code. This is a friendly reminder that open-toed shoes and shoes that light up do not meet our school dress code. You can access the complete dress code here or contact the front office with additional questions.
Walking Students to Class
We love seeing parents help students find classes on the first day of school; it sure helps with the first day of school jitters! Now that we are getting more comfortable with our daily routine, we ask that parents foster independence in their children by allowing them to enter the building and walk to class on their own.
First Days of School
Kindergarteners' first day of school will be Monday, August 22nd. During the previous week (August 15th – 19th), kindergarteners will complete their beginning of year testing during their reserved time. If you have not yet signed up your Kindergartener for testing here is the link. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0f4dadaf2fa3fa7-kindergarten
Back to School "Night"
We will be offering Back to School "Night" digitally this year to make it more accessible to families. Look for our Back to School Night email with all the links and details later this week.
School Lunch and Reading Support
Did you know that schools get additional support to help students struggling in reading through the Free and Reduced lunch program? It also allows students access to both breakfast and lunch at school. Even if your child brings lunch from home, please take a moment to apply for the program and maximize the support we can offer students.
You can apply here.
School Supplies
You can access the list of recommended school supplies and greatly appreciated donations on our website to jump on back-to-school year shopping early.
Restaurant Night
Our first restaurant night will be August 30th at Handel's Ice Cream in Woods Cross!
More information to come! Mark your calendars!!
