Lock Down Drill On Tuesday, March 29th
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We will be conducting a lockdown Drill on Tuesday, March 29th. State law requires that we conduct a Lockdown drill 2 x’s a year. This drill will be particularly important for both students and staff because it’s the first time we have conducted a lockdown drill without modification since COVID protocols were instituted nearly 2 years ago. Lakeridge High School staff have reviewed and planned for the procedures to support students and all who will be in the building during this drill. Our goal is to minimize the disruption to classroom learning and avoid creating undue concern, while simultaneously providing practice for staff, students, visitors, and volunteers. In the event of a serious emergency. The safety of our students, staff, and visitors is always our most important priority.
A Lockdown is initiated when there is a threat inside the building. A lockdown secures students, staff, and volunteers within classrooms while leaving entrances open for emergency personnel and law enforcement to clear the building.
We will be conducting this drill with the assistance of the LOPD, who have become invaluable partners with the school district in all of our emergency drill training. After the drill, we will spend time assessing how well we executed procedures and where we can improve our practices. If interested, you can learn more about our lockdown procedures, and how they differ from a Secure, Hold, Evacuation, or Shelter Drill, on the LOSD website in the Safety/Security department webpage https://www.losdschools.org/domain/1748.
Depending on a child’s personal lived experience, they may have a very traumatic reaction to a standard Lockdown Drill due to the intensity of the subject matter; for these students, participating in a simulated event—even a drill—may cause undue stress. To accommodate them, the school will be hosting a seminar-style training on best practices during this lockdown drill in a different location in the school that will be far less intense. If you believe your student will benefit from this alternate drill setting, please fill out the following form.https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1K4zAeMAP2tQHnd6poPrd6Q4lZ5DuoHkh0QdH_Nx9byw/edit
If you have any questions about the lockdown drill or any other aspect of the Standard Response Protocol, please address them to either John Parke, Safety and Security Administrator or Mrs. Fisher.
