Vietnam War (1955-1975)
Where, When, What, Why, and Who.
When: November 1, 1955 – April 30, 1975
What: Communism sneaked itself into Vietnam and and the United States didn't want that to happen.
Why: Communism back when JFK was president was not something he liked so he sent soldiers over to Vietnam to stop it from happening.
-The war was a means of containing Communism.
-It was one of the most televised wars in history
-It set a standard for wartime journalism
-If the US hadn’t participated, the non-Communist peoples of South Vietnam would have been persecuted even more than they were.
-The fate of those millions who suffered so greatly under the Communists after the fall of the South shows that it was right to assist the non-Communists in opposing them.
-The USA bombed Cambodia and Laos, too – breaking more laws, with even less justification.
-Many non-communists in Vietnam opposed the southern government, because it was so corrupt and so oppressive.
-The Viet Cong used guerrilla warfare, something us Americans don't know how to fight.
-The orange agent killed thousands of Vietnam people. Some side effects of it are prostate cancer, respiratory cancers, multiple myeloma, type II diabetes mellitus, Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, and soft tissue sarcoma.
