St. Columba's Primary School
NEWSLETTER | TERM 4 | WEEK 2 | 20 OCTOBER 2022

From the Principal
Dear Parents and Carers,
Our second week back this term is just as busy as last week. Students have been very busy with school photos, swim trials and our Year 6 students are enjoying their time on the Fairbridge Farm school camp near Pinjarra.
A reminder to families that students should not be on the school grounds prior to 8:30am. St Columba’s provides supervision only from 8:30am until the bell goes at 8:50am. On entering the school grounds during the day, all visitors are required to sign in at the front office. If students are going to play on the playground equipment after school, it is a requirement that a parent must be there to supervise. The school staff do not supervise the play equipment before or after school. If students are unsupervised on the equipment they will be asked to leave the area.
I am also advising families that the before and after school events that involve third party providers, that the school is not responsible for supervision or making sure that students are collected by parents or carers. The responsibility lies with the provider and the family to make sure that children’s behaviour is appropriate while participating and that that they are collected on time and or are required to walk home.
The P&F Annual Community Meeting (ACM) will be held on Tuesday, 8 November at 6:00pm in the school undercover area.
Due to CEWA becoming incorporated, there will be some changes to the P&F from next year. The P&F Committee should be comprised of four plus the Principal or their delegate. The Principal of the school shall be an ex-officio member of the P&F committee but may not be elected as an office bearer. The P&F Committee must consist of the following office bearers: (a) Chair; (b) Deputy Chair; (c) Secretary; and (d) Treasurer and P&F Committee members are appointed to the role for two years. P&F Committee members can serve no more than six consecutive years (three terms) in that role. If you are interested in taking on the role please complete the attached proforma and return to the school office marked Confidential to the Principal by COB Friday, 4 November.
The School Advisory Council will be holding its ACM on Tuesday, 8 November at 6:30pm in the school undercover area.
There will not be any positions open for election, however, there will be a SAC and Principal’s Report presented. The 2023 school budget will be presented at the conclusion of the Reports.
God Bless and keep safe.
Allen McMahon
Principal

P&F News
Hi Everyone,
The P&F held their last official meeting for the year on Tuesday. Although it was our last meeting, there is still lots to be done.
We have a few exciting events coming up as you should all now be aware. We know there is a lot going on at the moment, and we appreciate how busy everyone is. A couple of these events were due to be held at the beginning of the year, but due to Covid, we had to reschedule. The alternative was to cancel.
Please get on board and support these fantastic initiatives. Grandparents Day, Dads of St Columba's Campout, School Disco and The Big "Friendraiser" - Night in White. The P&F reps have been working so hard to put all this together. The start of the year was tough, with not being allowed on school grounds and not being able to build that connection we all love in our school community. So now is your chance and we would like your support.
You may have seen the gorgeous mural being painted outside the library wall and the school community garden project fence erected next to the tennis courts. It is a result of your generosity that we are able to organise such wonderful initiatives such as these.
Have a wonderful week everyone. As usual, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact me.
Thanks,
Hayley Mitchell
P&F President

A Family registration costs $30. Please register below, so we can ensure the appropriate dinner, breakfast and drinks provision. Registrations will close on Tuesday, 25 October.
Volunteers & Como Hotel Drinks
We have created a WhatsApp group to organise the Camp Out. If you are able to assist before, during or after the Camp Out, or would like to be added to the WhatsApp group, please let us know by contacting Todd Dawson (0447 439 656), Mel Naso (0419 924 216) or Neilsen De Souza (0417 914 446)
We will hold an “information session” for volunteers at the Como Hotel on Wednesday, 19 October @ 6.30pm.
Changing of the Guard
The 2022 Camp Out marks a transition point for a number of Dads with kids in Year 6 leaving St Columba’s. We would love to hear from Dad’s who will take the reins of “Dads of St Columba’s”, specifically the legend that is Camp Out in 2023 and years to come.
Whilst COVID has kept us quiet in recent times, previous years we have organised golf days, cricket in the park, drinks on the iconic Paddle Steamer Decoy and a session or two at the Como Hotel.
2022 presents as a great opportunity to partner with you to handover and set future years up for success.
Regards,
Todd Dawson
