LSIC Nominations
The LSIC, Local School Improvement Council, represents the voice of the community’s education stakeholders (parents, community members, local businesses, students, teachers, etc.). The members of the LSIC contribute diverse expertise, insight, and experience to address complex issues and propose solutions that ultimately benefit the students.
The Mountainview LSIC meets once per quarter and benefits from teachers, service staff, parents, and community members that are on the council. We have TWO parent/guardian positions available, as well as ONE business/industry position. We are asking that you submit nominations.
If you wish to participate, feel free to nominate yourself. Your nomination must be submitted no later than Tuesday, September 7, 2021. This nomination form can be found out the Mountainview Parent Site.
Once the names have been received, we will put out a ballot for voting.
Thank you for your participation in the nomination process.

End of Day Transportation Changes
If your child is going home a different way than usual, that must be communicated to us by the parent/guardian. Communicating this to the classroom teacher is ideal, but you can also call the office. Any changes must be communicated by 3:00.
Parent Pick-Up
Thank you for your patience with parent pick-up. Please keep your sign visible until your child is safely in your vehicle. To help the line move quickly, stay inside your vehicle unless there is a car seat. If you need a sign, contact the office and one will be sent home with your student.

Fun Run Fundraiser
Parents and families— We are excited to announce our Fun Run Fundraiser beginning September 13th through September 24th!
The Fun Run program is a two week experience where students and families will learn important character lessons and are invited to help their school. At the end of the program, all students will participate in the big Fun Run event, where they will complete 30 - 35 laps of running, walking and dancing! The funds raised will go toward our teachers' grant fund and facility improvements.
Through MYBOOSTER.COM you can register your student(s) for the program and use the online sharing tools to ask friends and families for donations to help our school! Donations can be gathered for every lap your student completes on the Fun Run Day. Our goal is to have as many students registered as possible by the kickoff day, but registration and giving will be open through the Fun Run!
Students will also experience an amazing character theme called SPORTS CITY WORLDWIDE!
Stay tuned for more information in the upcoming weeks!

We have had a great start to Pre-K! Students are continuing to learn about their classmates and classroom routines. We will begin learning about each other's families and then begin a unit on trees and apples.
Students are encouraged to practice good hand washing skills at school and at home! They are building tolerance to mask wearing. Please make sure to label your child's mask with their name.
Kindergarten
Welcome to Kindergarten!
- In phonics we will begin exploring the letters and sounds of the alphabet through hands-on activities, songs, movements, and books in whole and small groups.
- Students will begin their writing journey by practicing writing their first or first and last name, how to hold a pencil correctly, and drawing pictures with labels.
- In reading, we will learn early literacy skills such as concept of word (pointing under words as we read), learning sight words, and reading pictures in books and our own writing.
- Students will begin learning numbers 1-10 and one to one correspondence. It is very important to continue these early skills at home through reading books together nightly and counting objects in the car, home, grocery store, etc.

We have had a terrific start to the new school year. We are learning lots of new things and procedures.
In the upcoming weeks we will begin to explore all areas of our curriculum.
- In phonics we will be reviewing spelling words with short vowels /a/e/i/o/u/.
- Our focus in Reading will be understanding the central idea of a story, creating mental images when reading, understanding characters and setting, understanding the author’s purpose for writing a story, as well as asking and answering questions.
- In grammar we will review nouns & verbs and begin an understanding of simple sentences and kinds of sentences.
- In writing we will be writing personal narratives.
- Our focus in Math over the next few weeks will be addition and subtraction and number bonds. From there we will be moving into number relationships and Fact Families.
- We will continue to strengthen our classroom community & environment by learning about our emotions, friendships, and problem solving skills by using our Second Step curriculum.
- Remember to bring a refillable water bottle to school everyday and to make sure you have joined your classroom REMIND app to receive information and messages from your classroom teacher. Please make sure to turn your notifications for REMIND on.
Third Grade
Welcome back, Bobcats! We are so excited to see everyone all together again.
Third graders are:
- practicing classroom routines, building relationships with their classmates and teachers, reading new stories, and reviewing some math concepts from years past.
- In September, third grade students will build a writing community through free writing and sharing. Read-alouds at the beginning of each writing class helps spark ideas for journal entries. The students enjoy sharing the stories they've written with the class.
- You will see spelling lists around mid-September!
- Digging into our new reading program "Into Reading," third graders will begin to explore different types of characters through realistic fiction. We will read texts about interesting characters who are true to themselves when faced with challenges.
- In math, third grade will review telling time, and introduce the concept of elapsed time.

Fifth Grade
5th Grade Team News:
The fifth graders are doing wonderful with being back! We are very proud of how well they have been doing with wearing their masks appropriately. They are excellent leaders for the rest of the school!
REMIND:
Teachers would like to remind parents to sign up for Remind so we can send you messages in a timely manner. Remind can be accessed on your cell phone or through email. If you have not added your child’s teacher please send a note to get the information.
BEGINNING OF THE YEAR PAPERWORK:
Beginning of the year paperwork is important and most students have returned the paper versions. Please remember to go online and fill out the Student Information and Health Forms as they are important for contacting you if your child becomes ill at school.
ACADEMICS:
Writing:
We will be continuing with the Being a Writer Curriculum this school year as the students not only enjoy it, but are as well successful with it! Students will be working on building the Writing Community. Every student will complete a Beginning of Year Writing Assessment so we can set goals for individual growth. One of the skills we will be working on is Point of View.
Math:
We will be starting iReady Unit 5 Geometry at the beginning of the school year. This starts with lesson 28. We will be working on iReady for 30 minutes a week in class with a goal of passing two lessons with a 100%. We strongly encourage the use of the iReady Online My Path lessons at home for students to work on their individual strengths and weaknesses.
Social Studies / Science:
Students will be studying the United States Regions during the month of September. We will discuss their location, history, and common physical features. Students will have a map test where they will need to label the states approximately every four days. Their Google Classroom will have a link to the US Regions Website that Mr. Bevan created this past summer. It has a game for each region where students can study. Purpose Games is a wonderful website/app we use with students to practice, however there are several others. At the end of the unit students will be required to complete an entire map of the United States.
Reading:
The curriculum we will be using this year is HMH: Into Reading. We are starting with Module 1 which is about Inventors. Students have a Reading Book/Workbook called their “My Book” they are allowed to write in this and take notes on the pages. It is encouraged, as we will be teaching note taking skills as a part of our reading lessons.
Reading Skills we will be starting with are: Central Idea, Summarizing, and Point of View.
Have a Great September!
Your Fifth Grade Team!
