Emerson Elementary Communication - April 14, 2022
Parent Input Welcome For 2022-2023
We are in the process of preparing classes for the 2022-2023 school year. Our goal is to create classes that are balanced based on student strengths and needs. Report card grades, teacher input, parent input and state test scores are used to assure that we are creating balanced classes.
In addition, we look to shuffle classes from one grade level to the next to assure that students continually have an opportunity to work with new students. Emerson teachers will review each class list thoroughly and will carefully consider how students work together and we will make adjustments to the class lists.
As we start the student placement process, we welcome parent input into this process. If there are specific needs or past history that should be considered and may contribute to the success of your student, we want to consider that information in the placement process. Our goal is to create the most balanced classes as possible while meeting student needs and will take all input into consideration. Please send your input to firstname.lastname@example.org no later than Friday, April 29.
Thank you – We are looking forward to another great year!

Emerson Coin Drive - Thank you!
Our fourth grade students showed impeccable compassion and empathy yesterday with the visit from the Salvation Army. The purpose of the Salvation Army's visit was to celebrate and collect the nearly $2,200 our Emerson and Snohomish K-6 students and their families fundraised from our coin drive. Students were able to ask prepared questions about how our money will get in the hands of the Ukrainian refugees. In addition, the Salvation Army brought a large check for us to sign and take pictures with. Some students presented their summary of how and why we started this coin drive. The Salvation Army was moved by our young students' care and compassion for others. We celebrated with cupcakes, and pictures with Sal, the Salvation Army's mascot!
Thank you to all the supported this wonderful cause. This is the kind of learning experience our children will forever remember!

Attention 6th Grade Students
Dear Parent or Guardian,
As of August 1, 2020 the required Tdap vaccine has changed to 7th grade to better align with the updated 2019 national immunization schedule (https://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/schedules/hcp/imz/child-adolescent.html). In the past, the Tdap booster was required for all 6th grade students, unless they have a provider-signed exemption form.
For the 2022-2023 school year, all students attending grades 7 through 12 must have one dose of Tdap vaccine, before starting school.
- For students in 7th grade, the Tdap vaccine must be given at or after age 10 to be accepted for school entry.
- For students in 8th to 12th grades, the Tdap vaccine must be given at or after age 7 to be accepted for school entry.
To update your child's Tdap immunization record at the school, you will need to turn in a medically verified immunization record. Your child's health care provider can print this for you, or you can print it from MylR, which is a free Department of Health online tool that allows families to view and print their official immunization records themselves. Go to https://wa.myir.net/register to begin the sign-up process.
To find out more about this change, or the updated August 1, 2020 law, please visit the Washington State Department of Health's website at www.doh.wa.gov/schoolimms2020.
I highly recommend parents schedule an appointment for your 6th grade student to receive this vaccine ASAP, if they haven’t already received it. Please bring confirmation, as outlined above, CMS registration in August. Thank you!
