Monday Memo
Week of 1/13/20: Central's Newsletter for Teachers & Staff
Let's have an incredible week!
Hello to my great big Pride of Panthers!
You made it through what seemed like the longest week ever. That break was incredible and hopefully we are all back on a regular sleep schedule. Hah!
I'm excited about the next few weeks and months. We have some exciting work before us and I am expectant and ready to see how we as a team, improve on instruction and create uniquely rich opportunities for our students to reason, analyze and think. I will be in rooms often to complete informals and a few formals to wrap up on those. I will be focusing on looking for student discussion around the rigorous tasks, the standard they are discussing, the teacher guidance/facilitation/questioning and formative assessment. Remember, after that direct instruction, we should hear our students doing the heavy lifting and hard work while we facilitate. I'm already proud of you and the work you do. It's so exciting to see you continue to grow your craft and impact student instruction!
This week we will be completing summatives, I will send out a separate email with the details on Monday. They are having to fix some technical issues within TNL so we will be patient. No worries!
Awards are on Monday and Tuesday. If you can choose one table for your whole class it makes it much easier for you to be near to all of your students and keep behavior in check. It's also a good opportunity to teach them much needed social skills like eye contact, shaking hands, audience voice levels and speaking when spoken to; such as a "Thank you". It's during these times we get a chance to train up our students in matters of etiquette.
Be sure and check the calendar below for this week's happenings. Let's have a great week!
Together we are committed. Together we are Central. We are #ONECENTRAL

Action Items and Reminders
- Summatives will be completed this week and you will meet with me on Thursday during PLCs unless you have met with me before. I will let you know when we are good to go on TNL. Otherwise I will print them and copy them for HR.
- Ms. Heather Johnson will be coming in to assist K and in other rooms she's been invited to teach and model in. She is an excellent resource and loves our students and teachers. She will also visit in our new classrooms.
Don't forget that students need phonics, word work, and don't forget fluency. Close reading is so important, but research shows that fluency is equally as important. Read to them, and give them time to read. Practice is so important and we will be talking more in PLCs as we look at our reading data.
- You are a HERO in the eyes of our students and in the eyes of your Principal! Thank you!
Please sign in daily.
If you have a time sheet it is very important to come up and sign in each day.
Don't forget to upload your plans in our shared drive. Outstanding job to everyone on getting your plans submitted and on time!
- Thank you for signing in and greeting your students at the door!
- Attendance notes must be checked daily and turned in daily. Attendance must be completed by 9 AM sharp.
- Wear your I.D. Badges at all times! Please send anyone who doesn't have a badge or sticker to the office and notify the office.

APPRECIATIONS
Over break, I personally took stock of where we are as a school and the quality of the staff here that make up the CES Family! I am beyond blessed and can't think of a better group of staff and students to make this educational journey with. You make a difference every single day! Thank you for your continued support and dedication.
Thank you to Mrs. Johns for taking on Pennies for Patients! With a cause near and dear to her heart, we are joining with her to raise our school goal of $1,500.
Thank you to the many teachers, guidance, AP, Reading Coach, and Paras who stepped up to help our new staff. Everyone chipped in to help the students adjust and to help the staff as well. Thank you team leaders for devoting extra time this week to making their lives easier during this transition. We had a few bumps, but we are pressing forward.
Thank you to Ms. Jenn for preparing everything for awards this week!
Thank you Ms. Lisa for doing your job so well with VAM verifications and scheduling for our new classes and all the normal things you do. You have been super busy and handle it like a champ! Thank you!
Thank you to all the teachers and staff who help with dismissal and bus duty even when you are clear to dismiss. We just want you to know how much we appreciate that you are able to do that and that you do it with a smile.
I think you will all get these...
Our Commitment and Pledge to Central Instruction
Together we commit to working hard to make sure instruction and assignments are both rigorous and engaging. We will continue setting the bar (grade-level standards) high and placing that intellectual lift on our students. This is the key to mastering complex material.
Time and time again, research has shown that when students are given access to four critical classroom level resources, they can and will make BIG academic gains.
- Grade-appropriate assignments (Rigor of the Standards)
- Strong instruction that lets students do most of the thinking in the lesson (facilitate with probing questions- most of the talking should be the students)
- A sense of deep engagement in what they're learning
- Teachers who hold high expectations for ALL students and truly believe they can meet grade-level standards (Set the bar high)
Every student will receive daily access to challenging, engaging, and grade-appropriate work. With each day that passes we will refine our skills to the best of the best in our profession! We will focus daily on what our students are learning and doing, we will strengthen our belief about what students can accomplish.
Together we are committed. Together we are Central. We are #ONECENTRAL
