5Essentials Survey for Parents

District 41 relies on parent feedback when planning for the future. Please share your thoughts about your school community through the annual Illinois 5Essentials survey! Taking this survey allows you to share your views on school effectiveness. The survey is administered by UChicago Impact and is based on the Five Essentials for School Success, an evidence-based framework developed by the University of Chicago.

  • The 5Essentials are:
  • Effective Leaders
  • Collaborative Teachers
  • Involved Families
  • Supportive Environment
  • Ambitious Instruction
Each school needs a parent response rate of at least 20% to receive a results report. Thank you for your participation!

5th Grade Engineering Challenge at Benjamin Franklin School

Using collaboration, critical thinking, and communication skills along with creativity, Mr. Bower's Benjamin Franklin 5th grade steamologists used limited resources to design towers strong enough to hold a binder clip. During the engineering-build students also used metric measurement and estimation review. The students were challenged with a deadline while practicing social distancing requirements. After collaborating and learning new techniques all of the student tower heights increased in Round 2. Student Anna H. now holds the new free-standing tower record of 86 CM!

Hadley Orchestra Notable News

The Hadley Orchestra students recently performed in small group ensemble presentations online in Google Meets classes. They connected playing a stringed instrument with composing a creative writing story. The students were excited to display powerpoint presentations, singing, dancing, computer sound effects, a winter storyline and making the story come alive with playing their stringed instruments. “It was so exciting to see what the students composed,” said Orchestra Director Georgia Alemis. “Congratulations on such creative and dynamic presentations orchestra players!”

In early March, the Hadley orchestra students will be performing in a solo recital in Google Meets classes. The students have been working very hard learning their solo pieces which correlate with the computer music program called Smartmusic. The Smartmusic program will play the piano accompaniment while the student performs their solo piece. The two musical parts will be synced together so it simulates a real live performance without any sound delay. Students have been learning various musical attributes to help improve their performance skills. Thank you for all of your hard work and practice orchestra members!

The Hadley Orchestras also have a new website!
