School of Science and Technology Spring
Date 6/2/2020
Dear Parents of Future 5th Grade:
As part of the Student Success Initiative to ensure grade-level academic achievement in reading and math by the end of [grade 5], we have used [Mock STAAR and MAP] reading and math test results from this year and other diagnostic tools to evaluate your child’s understanding of the concepts and skills important to reading and math success. If we determine by the first quarter of 5th grade that your child does not meet grade level instructional performance, they can be supported with accelerated reading and math intervention programs. This can be based either on the results of these assessments and additional information, including progress reports, grades, and observations by your child’s teacher, or your child’s having been out of school for the last quarter due to COVID-19.
Supplemental (one-on-one or small group) reading instruction will be provided if we begin 2020-2021 with face to face learning. If we continue distance learning, intervention will be provided through online learning.
Any of these interventions will be provided if face to face learning begins:
- before school
- during school
- after school
- in Saturday school
- during Advisory classes
- through lab courses
- other online curriculum practice at home
If distance learning continues, supplemental instruction in the area of reading or math intervention will be provided through Zoom Distance Learning.
The campus will continue to monitor your child’s reading and math progress. We encourage you to spend time each day reading with your child and reinforcing the concepts and skills your child has learned. By working together, we can help your child gain the necessary knowledge and skills to be successful on the [STAAR/STAAR Spanish] [grade 5] reading and math test.
Sincerely,
Dean of Academics

What To Expect Next School Year
At SST Spring, our target is that all students receive a dynamic and unparalleled education that guarantees choices and opportunities today and in the future. Our vision remains true, no matter where students are learning, how teachers are teaching, or what circumstances we face.
We believe a rigorous and enriching educational experience is critical for success in life. While we cannot stand shoulder to shoulder, we will stand by each other.
Following the current TEA guidelines; At this moment, it is uncertain whether we will be learning on-site or continue through our virtual learning program, but please rest assured that we have a rich and fundamental educational plan in place for any of the final decisions. When updates from TEA or our District are received we will let you know.
