McAvinnue's Community Newsletter: Week Of June 13th

MCAVINNUE'S PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE

Greetings McAvinnue Community!

The final full week of school is upon us! We made it through an extremely challenging school year in one piece...working together to ensure that everyone remained as safe as possible...while continuing to offer amazing teaching and learning opportunities!

It seems like a distant memory where we spent the major of our school day from November to February testing for COVID-19 including successfully executing contact tracing procedures that allowed McAvinnue to remain fully open even through the worst part of the COVID-19 pandemic. I am eager to continue to move forward as a school community in a more traditional and predictable manner that will allow us to do the things that truly make McAvinnue "the best school that we all know"!

It was so amazing to bring back McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day on Friday, June 10th! This is the first time that we were able to host this tremendous event for our students and faculty since the 2018-2019 academic school year. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented McAvinnue from carrying out this event which has become one of the most exciting end of the school year community events that we plan! Check out some of the pictures below that capture how much fun that everyone had. The weather was simply perfect...and so was the energy and excitement from our students, faculty, and parents!

The last day of school is Tuesday, June 21st for the 2021-2022 academic school year. This day will be an Early Release Day with students being dismissed for the final time at 1:30 PM. Everyone in the McAvinnue Community is eager to begin the much needed and well deserved Summer Break. To get everyone in the proper Summer mood prior to the last day, check out the Jack Hartman "Have Fun In The Summer" video below!

Here are a few items that you need to be aware of. Please mark your calendars for the following events and activities at McAvinnue for the next 5 1/2 days of school:

  • Tuesday, June 14th: McAvinnue's School Site Council @ 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  • Wednesday, June 15th: McAvinnue's "Rock Roll & Roar" - Teacher Appreciation Event
  • Thursday, June 16th: Grade 1 "Red Carpet" Awards Ceremony @ 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
  • Thursday, June 16th: Harvest Of The Month: Strawberries
  • Friday, June 17th: Grade 4 "Move Up" Graduation Ceremony
  • Monday, June 20th: Juneteenth Day - No School
  • Tuesday, June 21st: Last Day Of School - Early Dismissal

You will find additional details for the events and activities list above in this edition of McAvinnue's "Lion's Roar" Community Newsletter.

As usual, we are looking forward to another amazing week at the "best school that we all know"!

If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to contact the Main Office at McAvinnue or send Mr. Domina a message a mdomina@lowell.k12.ma.us.

It was a perfect day to host McAvinnue's "Paw"tastic Field Day on Friday, June 10th! This is the first time we were able to planning and execute this event since the 2018-2019 school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Everyone had so much fun!

A BIG shout out to Mrs. Hall for all of her efforts to ensure that this event was such a positive experience for our students and faculty!

Updated COVID-19 Quarantine Guidelines for Families

On December 30, 2021, the CDC and DESE updated their COVID-19 Quarantine and Isolation protocols. We will begin following those guidelines. Here is a summary of some of the changes:

For individuals who TEST POSITIVE for COVID-19:

  • The new CDC guidelines have reduced the quarantine to 5 days if you do not have symptoms. After the 5 day quarantine period an individual may return to school if they have been symptom free for 24 hours without medication. Please contact Nurse Lindsey to create a plan for return if you get a positive COVID-19 test.

For individuals who are identified as CLOSE CONTACTS to someone who tests positive for COVID-19:

  • We are no longer engaging in identifying "close contacts" within the school setting.
  • Students who are asymptomatic and fully vaccinated are exempt from testing and quarantine response protocols. Fully vaccinated is defined as two weeks after receiving the 2nd dose of their vaccine. If your student is fully vaccinated, please send a copy of their vaccine card to Nurse Robin.

Please let Nurse Robin or I know if you have any questions about the new protocols. You can access the an easy to read visual below and also download the PDF version using the attachment below.
