Raven's News for March
A Message from the Principal!
Dear Wrightstown Families,
Spring is inching closer; at least we hope! When we think of spring, we think of Wrightstown’s annual Spring Fair! Please join us on Saturday, March 12, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. for a day of fun! Information is included in weekly listserv updates. This month we have a special birthday that we will recognize- Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! In honor of this special day, Wrightstown students and staff will celebrate Read Across America on March 2nd! Students are invited to wear crazy socks in honor of the book, Fox in Socks. Trivia and a variety of activities are planned as well!
I hope you will join me for a Principal’s Chat on March 15th at 10:00 a.m. in the WES Art Room. Your questions, feedback, and suggestions are important to me! This month’s PTO meeting will be held on March 8th at 7:30 p.m. in the WES Art Room.
Our 3rd and 4th grade students have been working hard to practice their lines and perfect their singing! On March 16th at 6:30 p.m. parents are invited to see “Rock! Celebrating the History of Rock n Roll.” We are looking forward to an exciting evening!
Lastly, on behalf of the Wrightstown Team, I would like to wish you and your family a safe and relaxing Spring Break! It is important to take this time to reconnect as a family and enjoy some well-deserved rest from the every day school routine. This break will need to carry us to the end of the year- so make it count!
Schools Closed: Spring Break: March 21-25.
WES Offices will be open March 21 & March 22.

Math News from Mrs. Prozzillo
Our annual Family Math Night was held on the evening of Wednesday, Feb. 24th. Despite the threat of torrential downpours, it turned out to be a success. Former WES students, who currently attend NES, volunteered to run a variety of math games for grades 1-4. It was fantastic to see parents and grandparents helping children apply their math skills through the use of enjoyable games. The activities are designed to generate a fun struggle, without creating any level of frustration. The games are also set up to promote interactive math talk among children and adults.
St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner. Have some fun with your child creating an Origami shamrock. The link below includes step-by-step directions.

This is the last month for our Pizza Hut Book It program - so please encourage your children to continue reading and logging their minutes each night. This is their last chance to get their personal pan pizza coupon from Pizza Hut!
Our First Camp Read In was a great success! Thank you to all who came out to support the importance of reading. I hope you all enjoyed it! Check out the website for pictures of the event!
News from the Library!
Our school library has over 13,000 books!
During our March Book Madness, we’ll find the most treasured book of 2016 voted on by the students at WES. The bracket begins with the top 32 books that have been checked out the from the school library so far this year. They may be picture books, chapter books, biographies, or non-fiction books. Each week the books will be paired and a schoolwide vote will determine that round’s winner. We will celebrate the Sweet Sixteen, the Elite Eight, and the Final Four. Our champion will be decided near the same time as the NCAA Basketball Finals. The School Library Website will have the current bracket information.

Counselors Corner with Mrs. Jachimski
Our fourth grade students learned about the power of words through the story, Mrs. Peabody’s Apples by Madonna.
Inspired by a 300-year-old Ukrainian story, Madonna's tale is about the dangers of gossip. Mr. Peabody is a beloved elementary school teacher and baseball coach in a small town of Happville. He one day finds himself ostracized when rumors spread through the small town. Mr. Peabody silences the gossip with an unforgettable lesson about how we must choose our words carefully to avoid causing harm to others.
As a follow-up activity, our students participated in the “glitter challenge.” Be sure to ask your 4th grader how glitter is like gossip!
Random Acts of Kindness Update
To celebrate Random Act of Kindness Month and the 100th Day of School, we set up a Random Act of Kindness Challenge for our students. The goal was for our students to perform at least 100 acts of kindness by the end of February. Your children exceeded the goal with over 200 acts of kindness shared among their classmates and school staff!
We have been very busy in physical education class. During the month of February we had our cooperative activities during class. We use the rock wall, the ropes, the cargo net and our video games. The students rotate to each station and really enjoy challenging themselves at each one. In the month of March we start to get ready for our fitness tests and if the weather starts to break, get outdoors for gym. Before you know it field day will be here. We can’t wait for spring .
