Returning Student Registration
Be on the lookout in April for our Returning Student Registration process for current Westside students. Starting in mid-April, parents will be asked to login to their parent PowerSchool account and update information and permission forms for the 2019-2020 school year.
Completing these forms now will reduce—at least a little bit—the information overload parents face when school starts in August. Once you're finished, your child will be registered for the 2019-2020 school year. and we will have up-to-date contact information for back-to-school communication this summer.
7th Grade Requirements
7th Grade Requirements:
Physicals and Immunizations
From our Middle School Nurse:
Nebraska law requires all students entering 7th grade to have a complete physical (also fulfills the requirements for a sports physical).
• For those playing sports, physicals must be performed after May 1st; for all others, examinations must be performed after March 1st.
• A Tdap booster given after 10 years of age prior to entering 7th grade is also required.
Please call your health care provider to schedule your child's physical and immunizations (call now—appointments fill up fast). Once completed, we ask that you turn in your completed physical, along with immunizations,
to the ABC Building (909 S. 76th Street) before August 1st.
Please email questions to smith.melissaa@westside66.net.

Family Engagement Survey
About this time last year, the leadership team at Paddock invited families to fill out an online survey asking for input about family engagement and PBIS (Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports). The survey was available as a link and computers/iPads were set up during spring conferences. Thank you again to all the families who were able to participate in the survey! The leadership team has used this data in multiple ways - information was shared with the Community Club, the core PBIS team (which includes two parent representatives), and the WebMaster (the staff member who manages our website and social media platforms). Our PBIS team has implemented new incentives for thumbs up and a consistent check-in time for positive office referrals. The Community Club continues to provide information to families in the monthly newsletter, and is always looking for new members and volunteers. Please continue to provide us with your feedback and/or any questions, comments, or concerns. Thank you for your dedication to our school, kids, and community!

Counselor's Corner
In classroom group guidance, students will be studying ways for children to stay safe. Along with the teachers, I will be teaching 1-2 lessons in the classrooms from HealthTeacher.com, curriculum provided to us by Children’s Hospital and Medical Center.
Kindergarten and 1st grade- Our objectives are to help students differentiate between a stranger and trusted adults, understand the importance of trusting their feelings when a situation isn’t right, and identify ways to communicate to protect personal safety.
2nd -4th grade- Our objectives are to help students identify strangers and trusted adults, describe feelings that may signal a danger situation, and identify ways to keep themselves safe.
5th and 6th grade- Students will review a fact sheet about child abuse and identify abusive situations and refusal techniques to help protect themselves.
I will begin teaching the lessons in April. Please call or email if you have any questions.
