Sanford Stand Together
It is awesome seeing students talk the language of Book Pushing and Book Reviews. We will also be layering in a Youth Development initiative: Sanford Stand Together.
What is Sanford STAND Together:
Sanford students will participate in Sanford STAND Together lessons on how to prevent teasing, report teasing, and stand up in support of their peers who are being teased. Students will create work products to display in classrooms and throughout the building as part of Sanford Stand Together. School Counselor, Jena Brown, will lead this initiative along with Youth Development Lead Colleen Dwyer.
Family Communication and Log
We continue to emphasize the importance of Student Teacher Relationships. As Doug Fisher and John Hattie both highlight, this has .72 effect size.
Part of having a positive student teacher relationship is the relationship you have with your student's family. By now you should have had personal contact with all family members. While emailing and texting are great communication channels, it is also important to build relationships with the families you are serving by more personal communication that can include face to face conversations or phone calls.
In addition, you should maintain a log of all communication. I will send out a simple, barely time consuming document that you can use to capture this information each time you talk to a family member. Just like we make learning visible by maintaining formative data, we make learning visible by the Learning Environment we have in classrooms, and the family communication log we maintain.
