Principal's Report - Phillip Reavis

Year in Review

I want to extend a sincere thanks to faculty/staff members, parents, students, community members, and other district employees who have contributed so much to make the 2016-2017 school year a tremendous success! Oakview Elementary School continues to set itself apart as a leader in the district, state and nation as we work together for the children we serve. This year, parent and community volunteers logged tens of thousands of hours supporting the students at Oakview Elementary. The faculty and staff organized another successful Grandparents Day, staged The Wizard of Oz in December, dug for fossils in the spring, and so much more! The school and its students and teachers received awards and grants from local, district, state and national organizations recognizing our efforts in academic/artistic achievement, volunteering, and teacher professional service! Again, these success stories could only happen through the joint efforts of everyone at the school! Thank you ALL!

You may have already heard but as principal at the school, I just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share the good news again! Oakview PTA was named the 2016-2017 Local PTA Unit of the Year! This top honor from the South Carolina PTA recognizes the tremendous partnership between parents, community members, faculty, and staff to support the students at Oakview! From enrichment programs to strong communication, Oakview’s PTA sets the standard for others to follow, as over 40,000 volunteer hours are logged each year! They were honored at an April 20th ceremony and reception at the Kilgore Lewis House in downtown Greenville and received a certificate, along with a black cherry tree to plant in their yard.

Oakview Kitchen Staff Earns Perfect Scores

Congratulations to Miss Rena and her kitchen staff for earning FOUR perfect scores of 100 this school year as part of their annual inspections! This is a rare accomplishment in the food service industry and reflects a job well done by Miss Rena and her crew! Please join me in thanking them for all they do in providing healthy meals for Oakview students and for the professionalism they take in carrying out their work.

Teacher Assignments for 2017-2018

Letters requesting a certain teacher for next year are not accepted. We ask that parents allow the school staff to make professional judgments with respect to student placements. Letters containing the following information will immediately be discarded: 1) naming a teacher, 2) requesting an experienced teacher or a new teacher, and 3) requesting that certain students be in the same/different classes (with the exception of twins, triplets, etc.). Thank you for supporting the process of teacher assignments as we work with the many students here at Oakview Elementary School.

Summer Office Hours/Registration

We will keep summer office hours from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday. We are closed on Fridays. If you or someone you know needs to register a student for next year, please come by ASAP!! Information regarding registration can be found on our web site.
