Babysitting Workshop
Registrations are due at the Extension office by Friday, March 18th. You will learn the basics of safety, food preparation, child development, and other things which will better prepare you. All participants will make a child development toy and a babysitting kit that can be exhibited at the fair. There will be an opportunity to learn about CPR that day also.
Spring Red Wheel
We will begin selling Red Wheel the first week of March as a fund raiser for those 4-H’ers that are interested in going on the Washington D.C. 4-H trip. Order forms will be mailed out by March 4th, and selling for the entire month. Please contact the office if your child is interested in selling Red Wheel so we can mail you out a packet of information.
Orders are due in the office Friday, April 1st. Delivery will be Saturday, April 23rd, (presorted) in Wilber at 8 a.m.
4-H’ers earn 40% of their proceeds which is then applied to their WDC trip costs.
Sew for Fun
A Sew for Fun workshop will be held on Monday, March 28th, 9 – 11 am at the Extension Office – This is for 4-H’ers with no sewing experience and those who have participated just one year. First year 4H’ers will make a pillow case and second year participants will make a patch work pillow.
You will receive a list of supplies to bring when you register for the class. Registration fee is $5. Get a head start on your sewing projects now. You will not be sewing, but getting prepared so you are ready for the sewing classes when school is out. Registration deadline for this sewing class is Friday, March 25th.
Nebraska 4-H Members Show at Omaha Fashion Week
Check out Nebraska’s most talented student designers! Omaha Fashion Week is kicking off with a Student Night on Tuesday, March 15th. View collections from top 4-H members, the Joslyn Art Museum’s Kent Bellows Studio, Omaha’s Central High School and Omaha South High School. Enjoy the Borsheim’s Red Carpet Experience and shop the OFW Pre-Party before the runway show. This year, 4-H members applied to participate in the 4-H collection. In order to be considered, garments must have been exhibited at the Nebraska State Fair. Garment entries should be fashion forward, runway appropriate and display high quality construction.
The 4-H collection includes ten garments from across the state and will feature Jefferson County's Megann Freese!
Purchase tickets in advance online at omahafashionweek.com/tickets, the cost is $10. Tickets may be available at the door if the event is not sold out. Omaha Fashion week will take place at the brand new Omaha Design Center (near TD Ameritrade Park). Doors open at 6:00 p.m., Fashion Show starts at 8:00 p.m.
4-H Public Speaking Contest
Developing 4-H’ers self-confidence and effective public speaking skills are two goals of the Nebraska 4-H public speaking contest. The local contest date has been set for Monday, March 28 at 7:00 p.m. You must pre-register for the contest by Wednesday, March 23 by calling the office or sending an email to hayden.hemphill@unl.edu. Top three winners from each age division (except novice) will be selected to advance to the Regional Speech Contest at UNL East Campus in Lincoln in May. The top seniors in the Regional contests will advance to the State Contest held during the State Fair to compete for a $500 U.S. Savings Bond and a college scholarship. We follow the same rules as the regional contest. Ages are as of January 1, 2016.4-H Enrollment Due April 1st!
Youth who are 8 years of age before January 1, current year and do not exceed the upper age limit of 19 during the current calendar year are eligible to be traditional 4-H members and can participate in all 4-H events. We welcome all youth and encourage you to invite your friends to join 4-H. 4-H Enrollment will be done online this year. We mailed each family a packet of information about how to re-enroll your youth this year. Please contact us if you have any questions or need to enroll some new friends! Enrollment completion is due April 1st.

CLOVER KIDS
Clover Kids is a 4-H program for children ages 5 to 7 years old. Children participate in hand-on activities designed to build lots of different life skills! Clover Kids also have their own section of the fair book with various projects they can bring to the fair!
The most important life skills for the 5 to 7 year-old age group are:
• Respecting Self
• Communicating with Others
• Solving Problems
• Thinking Critically
• Choosing Healthy Lifestyles
What do Clover Kids do?
• Explore science with simple science experiments
• Practice communication skills
• Strengthen motor skills through arts and crafts
• Make friends and learn to work with peers
• And much more!
Make sure to contact Darci with any questions about the program and Clover Kids will use the same enrollment process & deadline as the traditional 4-H program members. Enrollments are due April 1st.

Youth Livestock Quality Assurance Training
4-Her’s can now complete their Livestock Quality Assurance requirement online! All 4-Her’s enrolled in swine, beef, sheep, dairy goat, dairy cattle, meat goat, rabbits or poultry need to complete Livestock Quality Assurance. 4-Her’s completing their quality assurance requirement online must complete three modules and present their three certificates to their local county extension office prior to June 15th. There will be a $5 fee that each participant must pay before they will have access to course.
The course is divided into three levels: Junior (ages 8-10), Intermediate (ages 11-14), Senior (15-18). Each year youth are required to complete three modules within their age level. Each youth needs to have an e-mail address that they can use to log onto the website. Youth may work ahead and complete as many modules as possible in order to maximize the $5 course fee. Intermediate and Senior age youth also have the option to test out of Quality Assurance training at no charge. Contact the office for more information.
