ELKHORN Elementary Library Pumpkin Fun For Everyone!
This year, the library is getting into the fall spirit by having a book character pumpkin decorating contest. Elkhorn students and staff are invited to decorate a pumpkin like their favorite book character. Students and staff may bring in a decorated pumpkin to the school library and enter it into our contest October 12-16. All entries must be received by Friday Oct. 16. Pumpkins will be on display during the Fall Festival Oct. 17th. Winners will also be announced during the Fall Festival.
Contest Rules:
1. ABSOLUTELY NO CARVED PUMPKINS! Carved pumpkins rot, attract bugs, and smell. Most importantly, we don’t want a child handling a knife or carving tools. Carved pumpkins will not be entered into the contest and will be sent home. Pumpkins may be painted, hot glued, colored, etc.
PLASTIC PUMPKINS ARE HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR THIS PROJECT!
2. Pumpkins should represent a favorite book character. On the entry form, you must write the title and author of the book. **I would recommend getting the book information first before even starting to decorate the pumpkin. **
3. This is a home project and pumpkins should be done mostly by students. First and 2nd grade students may work with parents to complete a pumpkin as a “family.” 3rd-5th grade students should do most of the work themselves, with only some assistance by parents. Judges tend to give more points to projects where the student work is evident.
4. Pumpkins may be transported on the bus, but they must fit in the student’s lap and be inside a bag (per the bus garage).
5. Do not write your name anywhere on the pumpkin. When you bring your pumpkin and entry form to Ms Lynch, she will record the information so that each pumpkin can be properly identified.
6. Pumpkins will be judged according to the following categories. There will be a first, second, and third place winner. All pumpkins will receive a participation ribbon as well.
· First and 2nd Grade “Family” Pumpkins
· 3rd Grade thru 5th Grade Student Pumpkins
· Faculty & Staff Pumpkins
· Class pumpkins
7. Judging will be conducted by a panel of judges.

First place Winners in each category - $20 gift certificate to the book fair
Second place Winners in each category - $10 gift certificate to the book fair
