FAMOUS ASTRONOMERS (PRE 1900)
JOHANNES KEPLER
Dates of dscoveries
While Copernicus and Galileo often receive the credit in the popular imagination, it was Johannes Kepler (1571-1630) who discovered and demonstrated that the Earth orbits the Sun.In his 1609 work, Astronomai Nova ("The New Astronomy"), Kepler demolished the Aristotelian cosmography of perfect forms and unknowable causes, forever changed man’s sense of his places in the Universe, helped launch the scientific revolution--and also identified problems which would motivate the development of calculus.
Technology used at time
Johannes Kepler used mathematics, astronomy and astrology
Meanings
Astrology-study of planets and human behaviour, the study of the positions of the Moon, Sun, and other planets in the belief that their motions affect human beings.
Astronomy- the scientific study of the universe, especially of the motions, positions, sizes, composition, and behaviour of astronomical objects.
Mathematics- the study of the relationships among numbers, shapes, and quantities. It uses signs, symbols, and proofs and includes arithmetic, algebra, calculus, geometry, and trigonometry.
Contributions to our knowledge
Johannes Kepler showed us that the Earth orbits the sun that goes the with the other planets aswell, he showed that the planets moving in circular motions didn't work
