Sister Irene McCormack
Sister Irene McCormack was born at Kununoppinon on the 21st of August, 1938. She is the daughter of Mary O'Meara and Thomas McCormack. Irene McCormack died in 1991 at the age of 53 years. She was and died as a result.
Sr Irene McCormack went to school at Sisters of St Joseph for primary and secondary to Junior level.
She was a member of the Sisters of St Joseph of the Sacred Heart, the order of nuns founded by MacKillop. Sister Irene, who joined the order after leaving school, was a teacher in Western Australia before she felt called to help the poor in the village of Huasahuasi, high in the Andes.
Despite threats from the Shining Path, waging a Maoist war to overthrow the Peruvian Government, she continued to teach and run a food kitchen.
