FROM THE LIBRARY
November is National Picture Book Month! Picture books are so important, even for older children, as they introduce students to different art styles and help them make visual connections between text and pictures. This month, I am encouraging students in all grades to explore and check out picture books.
The Scholastic Book Fair is coming December 9-13. Click here for more information on classroom dates and times, online shopping and how to volunteer. Thank you!
TAKE A HIKE DAY
"Take A Hike Day", National Hiking Day is on November 17th and may be one of the most important holidays out there. Why? For starters, there's more than 60,000 miles of trails across the nation. Not to mention, hiking is great exercise allowing you to burn over 550 calories per hour. Plus, being in the outdoors allows you to get away from electronic devices and appreciate nature's beauty and wonder.
At GWS we will celebrate Take A Hike Day on November 18th by inviting each class to walk, hike or jog on the GWS Trail. The GWS trail is our hiking route and is a 1/2 mile course marked by Mr. Jackson's orange flags. All PE classes are scheduled to be outside in celebration of this day.
REMINDERS FOR PARENTS
STUDENT INFORMATION UPDATE
The Marshfield Public Schools will now be using workflows in the Aspen Family portal to complete the "back to school" emergency contact forms that have traditionally been done on paper. Parents/guardians will need to use their Family accounts (not Student accounts) to complete the "Student Information Update" workflow for each student, and the "Parent Information Update" workflow for themselves.
Instructions for completing the information update workflows can be found here: https://bit.ly/2NGfedW
If you are unable to log in, please contact aspen@mpsd.org or call GWS (781) 834-5060.

EARN MONEY FOR GWS AS YOU CLEAN OUT YOUR CLOSETS!
Put your unwanted items to good use by dropping them in our textiles recycling bin, located in our parking lot near the trash dumpsters. Ninety-five percent of all textiles can be recycled.
The following can be donated as long as they are clean & dry: clothing, shoes, pocketbooks, table linens, bed linens, draperies, throw rugs, and stuffed animals. Please place your items in plastic bags so that they will stay dry.
GWS will earn $100 for every ton of textiles placed in our recycling bin.
