Run for a cause
Game on Madison! The 2018 Run-a-Thon will run as follows:
Wednesday, September 19th
9:20 a.m. 3rd Grade
10:10 a.m. Kindergarten
11:00 a.m. 4th Grade
Thursday, September 20th
9:20 a.m. 5th Grade
10:10 a.m. 1st Grade
11:00 a.m. 2nd Grade
The students will be bringing home more information and fundraising sheets in the next few weeks. As a reminder, the Run-a-Thon funds programs such as Multicultural Day, Explore More Day, School Assemblies, Class Parties and many other wonderful programs that make Madison a special place to send our kids to school.
A few slight changes to note for this year's Run-a-Thon:
(1) a lap sheet will NOT be sent home following the run. Instead, look to your child's t-shirt generously donated by Bauer Dentistry & Orthodontics for the lap count.
(2) The class in each grade that runs the most laps (avg per student) will win an extra roller skating session with Mr. Cortesi AND will be entered to win the grand prize.
Finally, we are also looking for volunteers for both days to ensure everything runs smoothly. If you are interested in helping please email Heidi Coppersmith at email@example.com with which day(s) work best for you. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to Abby May, Danielle Bauer, Cecilia Horejs.

Volunteer in the LLC
Our Library Learning Center (LLC) is in need of your support. We are seeking volunteers in both the morning (9:15 a.m.-12 p.m.) and afternoon (1 - 3:30 p.m.) sessions. Mrs. Graham, our LLC Director, couldn't have the program she has today without your help. Your time is appreciated no matter how often you can volunteer, be it every week, every other week, or once a month. Volunteering in the library is a special way parents and grandparents can share in their child's school day. Some of the LLC volunteering activities include shelving, checking materials in and out, preparing displays and bulletin boards, and assisting students and faculty. If you are interested in volunteering in the Madison library, please contact Kathryn Medanic at email@example.com

LLC teaches students to check out and in books
Madison’s Library Learning Center is ready for an exciting year. Students have checked out books and learned about taking care of books and returning books on time. During the year, students will hear book talks, explore authors and illustrators, learn how to find books on their own using the Computer Catalog, research a variety of topics, use technology, and create in the GetFIT Lab. Third, fourth and fifth graders learned how to check out and in their library books. Fifth graders are participating in a “Library Boot Camp,” where they have 12 days of intensive library review to become independent library users and to learn how to help other students in the library.
Students may check out materials anytime during the school day with their teacher’s permission. Weekly, kindergartners check out two books, first graders check out three books, second graders begin with one and will work their way to six books. Third, fourth, and fifth graders may check out six books. No fines are charged for overdue books, but if a book is lost or damaged, a replacement fee will be charged.
Reading and being read to is a wonderful experience. Please feel free to visit Madison’s Library Learning Center and explore it for yourself. I look forward to working with your children this year.
Mrs. Graham, Library Learning Center Director
