Week of September 13th
From the Desk of Principal Schmid
One of the many elements we missed last year was an opportunity to receive valid assessment measures on all of our students due to students learning through various platforms. Now that we are all back in school, we are looking forward to gathering data through our fall benchmarking assessments this week.
We appreciate your support in reminding your student(s) to always give their best in all they do! You can also support in helping them get a good night's sleep and fueling their body with healthy nutrients!
We use these measures as various components in our multi-tiered systems of support (MTSS), so ensuring we have accurate measures is important as it supports our instructional practices for the next nine weeks. This data will be shared with you via ParentVUE (Plan A) or sent home as a hard copy (Plan B). We do anticipate this data will look different than it has historically. However, we are ready to do the work we have been trained to do! We will continue accelerating learning while meeting kids where they are to take them further. All kids will grow through effective and engaging teaching, interventions to support students, and continuous monitoring of student progress; that is the wonderful work of teaching! Our summer learning and early boost programs have already been in place as part of this mission.
Your partnership may look different than it did last year, but we greatly appreciate ALL you do in supporting/reinforcing at home. As I stated many times last year, it takes a village, and we are very proud to have you part of ours!
Mrs. Keeley Schmid
Brookdale's Proud Principal

*Students are only pictured if permission is given during time of registration. If it was selected "no" at the time of registration, student's face and/or name will not be pictured. If you selected "no" and are okay with the child being photographed, please contact your child's teacher to have it updated in our system.
If you are new to District 204, PushCoin is the district's system for exchanging money. Each year, you will find the registration fee, which is a new fee each year. Also, throughout his/her time in the district, if your child incurs a fee for any reason (lost library book, broken Chromebook piece, etc.) you will find it charged to your account. Our lunch system is also managed through this account, although we get another year of free food for all--hooray! Anytime the school is exchanging money, we will be using this system.
When you registered this year, you saw a letter regarding Classroom Magazines that Kindergarten-3rd grade use as a supplement to the curriculum, which ties to current events. Kindergarten, 1st, and 3rd grade use Scholastic and 2nd grade uses Time for Kids. If you did not already purchase it from the Webstore prior to the 1st day of school, you will find the cost charged to your account.
If you need any assistance setting up your account or have any questions, please don't hesitate to call our office: 630-428-6800.

Fall Universal Benchmarking Screening
Our Universal Benchmarking Screening (District 204 uses AimsWeb+) is an opportunity to assess our students in the areas of reading and math. These scores are used as a component for meeting students where they are in order to achieve academic growth through our Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS).
Since our Academic Support Team (RI, MI, PA, ELL) facilitates these assessments, there will be no pull-out intervention supports during this time. PA services will resume on 9/16 and fall interventions will begin during "What I Need Time (W.I.N.)" on 9/20. You will be notified if your child is identified for an additional intervention to support his/her needs.

"A book is a present you can open again and again."
"A book is a present you can open again and again". The Birthday Book Club program invites students to donate a book of their special choosing to the LMC during the month of their birthday. One day each month all students who have chosen to participate in the program will go to the LMC after morning announcements to choose his or her book. A photo of the student will be taken and placed in the book on a special bookplate indicating the donor and his or her birthday. The book will then be checked out to that student. This is a great way to give a lasting gift to the school and celebrate your birthday at the same time.
Registration for Brookdale’s Birthday Book club can be found in the Pushcoin webstore. https://www.ipsd.org/Subpage.aspx/OnlineMealPayments scroll to bottom of page to see Webstore instructions.

We look forward to getting more of our students featured on our Friday video announcements!
Volunteers: On-Hold But Still Needed
Due to the current high COVID transmission rates in the county, volunteering within the schools has been asked to pause. This is reviewed every two weeks, which means we still want to have volunteers lined up for “regular” PTA programming once we have the green light. We are still seeking volunteers for the following:
· Morning Greeters: help support the front office during the busy morning rush – the time commitment is only 30 minutes from 9 – 9:30 am. Sign up a single day or as many days as you can commit to. Sign up
· Men of Brookdale: male role models assist with lunch and recess at Brookdale a couple of Friday’s each month. There are two sessions each day: 10:40 am – 12:10 pm (Grades 2/3/1) and 12 pm – 1:40 pm (Grades 5/4/K). Volunteers can sign up for one or both sessions. Sign up
· LMC Volunteers: help in the library from 1 – 3:30 pm every other week. (If you’d like to volunteer for more than one shift, that's fine too!) Sign up
Men of Brookdale
*You can sign up for a time, and we will update based on transmission rates if the dates will run. We are really looking forward to this program and appreciate your participation!
MOB is Back!!!!!!!!
MOB (Men of Brookdale) is a group created in response to a District 204 initiative to bring more male role models into our schools. MOB volunteers help at Brookdale a couple of Friday’s each month to assist with recess and lunch. It's simple, fun and rewarding!
Adult male volunteers (dads, grandfathers, uncles, etc.) can come multiple times or just once (perhaps on a random day off). Sign up below for your chance to volunteer and make a difference as a MOB. If you have any questions, email Tim Phelan at email@example.com.
