Team NRG's Wellness Night
On October 30, Jamison hosted Team NRG's Wellness Night. This night was devoted to a lifestyle of healthy living. Many community organizations came to Jamison and showed our students and parents some great ways to stay active and eat healthy. Please take a look at the N-R-G newsletter located on line about some healthy family challenges.
November Conferences
We are fast approaching our November Conferences for Parents, Teachers, and Students. During the conference, your child's "Conference Report" will be referenced. This report will focus on his/her academic achievement, strengths as a learner, and goals for future growth. The Conference Report will serve as a springboard for conversations around student learning thus far, as well as goal setting for the future.
As you sit in on the conference and look over your child's conference report, I would encourage you to put aside the letters and numbers and even the verbiage on the report. Instead, listen to the feedback about your child from his/her teacher and ask yourself these two questions...
In what areas is my child meeting expectations?
In what areas does my child need to improve?
When you have the answers to these two questions, you will be able to help your son or daughter shift their focus from the "grade" they earned to what they have learned and what steps they can take to meet their goals. When all is said and done, I believe the feedback from your child's teacher, which answers these questions, will be much more valuable to you and your child than letters and numbers written on a piece of paper.
- As a reminder, if you have not created a Log-in for the Parent Portal, please do so ASAP. Your child's Conference Report will be accessible electronically via the Parent Portal on November 19th. Click HERE to follow the link below for information on how to create a log-in.
Kiss-N-Drop...PLEASE SLOW DOWN!
Parents,
Throughout the past several years I've written to you asking everyone to be mindful of their speed in our parking lot. Morning arrival is a busy time where many students are coming into the building in multiple ways. However, every so often, I hear about people speeding in the parking lot. As I mentioned before, I have contacted the Warwick Police Department and asked them to assist the school in keeping our kids safe. Please note that this is only to help our kids stay safe. If you see someone driving too fast, please respectfully ask them to slow down, inform an adult supervisor, or make the office aware. Thank you for your assistance.

Time Change...more time indoors.
Well, with the upcoming time change, parents are going to be faced with the challenge of closely monitoring their children's time on video games. With dark afternoons, kids are more willing to simply engage in their electronics. Perhaps, as a family, it might be the time to set aside some specific guidelines about "screen time". A few possible alternatives are:
-Board games
-Cards
-Reading
-Hide-N-Seek in the house!
-Cook a meal as a family
I also realize that electronics can be fun and engaging and bring a family together.
-Watch a movie as a family.
-Play "Words with Friends"
-Every once in a while, try to play a video game that your kids play. They'll love beating you.
Most importantly, keep things in balance. For some reason, the dark months have a tendency to bring a lot of "screen time" with them...

A Message from Grubs Ecology…
T’was a week before Halloween and all through the school
The pumpkins were painted And man were they cool!
The families had decorated their pumpkins with care
In hopes that the students would all stop and stare
From pumpkins of Phillies to scary to funny
To enter they gave two dollars of money
Good family fun is what we all had.
To help Grubs Ecology and make the earth glad
To build some bins to compost come spring
Thank you to all for the pumpkins you bring.
Grubs thanks all those who participated in our annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest. You made this the most successful Pumpkin Decorating Contest yet! Grubs Ecology plans on building a “Garbage Garden” of compost bins and worm bins and start a school-wide composting program.
We hope you had fun “carving” out some family time to work on your pumpkins. A HUGE THANK YOU ALSO GOES OUT TO ALL WHO BOUGHT TICKETS TO VOTE FOR YOU FAVORITE PUMPKINS…Jamison Elementary Rocks!
