Goal Setting for Student Progress Form
All teachers must complete the first three processes (this includes all teachers on summative and non-summative).
The first three steps are the same as previous years:
Goal Setting for Student Progress Form
Teacher Reflection and Self Assessment
Professional Development Plan
One of the biggest misconceptions in previous years was that you did not need to do Reflection or PD Plan, Yes, please do all three of these.
The due dates for these three items are October 31.
Action Item:
Please explore Frontline Professional Growth to locate and access these three forms. If yo need help, I would be glad to assist.
I will hold two workshops to assist with completion of Goal Setting for Student Progress Form. These are optional but typically attendees leave with their Goal Setting form completed or almost completed. The sessions will be in the Computer Lab at 310 on October 23 and October 24. We are typically finished in 45 minutes.
Suzie's Soapbox: The First Six Week's Corner
Self-Reflection:
As the honeymoon period with our students ends, I have found myself falling back into old routines. Letting kids know, I am in charge. Working from a place of teacher control instead of student voice and choice. Giving students the "what for." Barking before listening. Insisting on silence. Asking students to work at their desk even though they are working well on the carpet. Not allowing access to the carpet or comfortable flexible seating.
I am reminded of the video “Every Opportunity,” (linked below) and what I pledged for this year. I have to call myself back to building relationships. Am I doing everything I can to give the students voice and choice? Do I provide mindfulness breaks? (a stretch can take less than a minute and re-focus students)- I must keep in mind that student behavior is feedback. I have to remember that in order to change their behavior, I have to change my own. Thank you for all you do.
Number Talks
This is a repost on Number Talks from last week. The part I added to this post is:
Have you started Number Talks?
If not, what are you doing to make Number Talks a daily part of your math block by no later than Monday October 15? If you need any assistance, I can help and I can point you in the direction to expertise in our building.
Number Talks definition: 5 to 15 minutes classroom conversation around purposefully drafted computation problems that are solved mentally.
A teacher from each grade level attended a PD this week on Number Talks. In addition, there are teachers/teams who have consistently implemented Number Talks in their classroom for the past year or two. Follow up PD will be offered. Our initial action steps for the implementation of Number Talks (K-5) at Sanford are listed below:
Action Item:
Connect with the person/people on your team who attended the training OR are familiar with the Number Talk strategy.
Build your own back ground knowledge
Grade level leads should begin to lead planning of the computation to be used for the daily Number Talks
This all leads to the expectation at Sanford that Number Talks will be implemented daily in each classroom.
