Table Talk

The information in this newsletter is designed to help with daily conversations with your child. It lets you know what your child has learned and what he/she/they will be learning in school. It also includes any updates and reminders.

Reading

Unit 2

Theme: Cycles in our Natural World

Essential Question: How do different plants and animals grow, develop, and survive in our natural world?


This Week:

We will be using text features and images in order to help us clarify and understand informational (expository) text. We will also identify the main idea/topic and details of informational text. Finally we will focus on the connection between animal parents and their offspring as well as how offspring grow up to be like their parents.

Spelling/Phonics

This Week:

We will be learning about consonant digraphs ch (chin, lunch), sh (ship, wish), tch (watch), ph (phone, graph), th (thin, with), and ng (wing) in order to read, write, and spell words with consonant digraphs.


Homework:

Choose one menu item each night or create your own activity and write what you did in your spelling notebook. On Wednesday have your child/children practice their spelling words to prepare for the test. While preparing for the test have your child practice writing several of the words in a complete sentence.


Test:

This week our test will be on Thursday due to our Fall Celebration. The spelling test will consist of 5 words from the spelling list given, 2 words that the students will apply new and old skills, and 3 high frequency words from the list given. The words are graded for accuracy and capitalization. The students are also required to choose one word from the test and use it in a meaningful sentence. The sentence is graded for CAPSS (capitalization, appearance, punctuation, spelling, and sense).

Grammar/Writing

This Week:

Grammar: This week we learn when to us the articles an and a when writing.


Writing: We will continue to use the writing process (Brainstorming, Drafting, Revising, Editing, Publishing) when completing a piece of our writing.

Content

This Week:

We will identify the three layers of Earth . We will also learn about the surface of Earth and create a model of the earth.

Volunteer Training

Make sure that you become volunteer trained so that you can be a part of our class field trips, parties, etc. . Click on the link below.

Birthday Celebration

Our November birthday celebration will be on Thursday, November 5th (3:00-3:30). We will celebrate the birthdays of Caleb, Andrew, Ryan, and Adeline. Parents are welcome to come celebrate. If your child would like to bring in something to share with the class, we are requesting indoor/outdoor recess equipment, books, crafts, etc.
